A challenge is in order.......If you look at my ad's in FAMA back in the 90s you will see one of my products the rotating VORTEX wave maker......................its name "Rip Tide"
The challenge....which has better flow my "Rip Tide" VORTEX maker or the new "Rip Tide" GYRE" maker?

Poll? Which do you believe will suspend particulate matter better and give a more natural flow to coral's.
These are the old style I will introduce the new design at the challenge:)

There area at least a couple videos out already such as the one Greg posted here and the one Chris posted about that was taken at InterZoo and can currently be found on the product page on CoralVue.com

Next week there is going to be a real nice professional looking one done in HD in a large, mature tank at the CoralVue labs that will go on the CoralVue website. It will show off the pump and it's abilities much better.

The. Video is up on the website

Up until Interzoo, that was the case, but Chris and Carlos were able to bring samples home with them so we can play! Yay!

Wait how is it you've seen it in action? You told me last week that there is none of these pumps in the USA. There just a prototype in Germany. Hun??????

Hey Cody, thanks. You too.
There will be 2 beta tests run this summer before the final product is released. I believe we're going to be taking applications in conjunction with having people submit videos of their tank on our Facebook page and tell why they think we should choose them to be a part of the beta test. If you think you'd be a good choice and would like to be a part of it, keep your eyes and ears open so you can apply.

Hey Lindsey hope all is well for you. Interesting looking pump for sure. I'd like to try one.

Hold a minute, who you calling witch lady? Lol
How you been Sahn?

Hold a minute the witch lady works for Coralvue now

That's pretty cool, Mace! Also very different technology, though. Seriously it was called "Rip Tide"?!?!? That's pretty crazy!
I can tell you that the whole CoralVue team had a part in the naming of this pump. When we decided on Riptide, we made sure there was nothing else that had ever been related to the aquarium industry that used the name "Riptide". I just Googled several different ways looking for something about your Rip Tide in the old issues of FAMA. I don't guess they're archived online. I couldn't find anything at all. That's crazy that we both chose the same name!

Here's a great video that really shows off the RipTide's abilities

Cool video. Thanks for posting. Still hoping when they come out they are black, and not clear. The clear stands out more IMO.

Looks very promising.

Pretty sure they're gonna be available in black as well. All of us at CoralVue feel pretty much the same about it looking better in black. We've talked to the product design guys at Maxspect about it and they were very receptive. The funny thing is, we did a survey on our Facebook pages and a lot of people liked the clear better. So I wouldn't be surprised if they end up making both color options. Either way, the pump is awesome and moves water like nothing else has been able to before or can currently and I think they'll sell well regardless of whether they're black or clear.

Ok I'm starting to come around. But I do get the same effect with my mp60 on my 6' tank.
Not true Mac. You may have good water movement even at the other end of the tank, but it's not the same effect because the propeller uses different technology.

I think of the RipTide as being similar to a closed loop. Like no head loss because it's pushing the same amount of water out as it's taking back in.

Propeller pumps don't move the water in the same way. They're just pushing the water. And in pulse modes, it creates waves because the water is pushing back against the lack of resistance from the pump stopping for a second.

If a propeller pump was running at a constant speed, you'd have a linear flow that was weaker at the other end of the tank, and with dead spots in the tank depending on where the pump was pointing.

With the RipTide, there are no dead spots and the flow is the same strength throughout the entire tank whether it's coming back toward or going away from the pump.

These illustrations might help it make more sense.

Ok so I've gotten a chance to see these pumps in action live. And let me tell u, they have lots of power. The middle model is just as powerful as a mp60 if not more. I think ecotech will have a run for there money if maxspect can develop a good controller. Cause let's be honest ecotech's sell so well because of there controllers.

Yea I admit I was a disbeliever but I've seen one in a 300 tank and it pushes all the way cross the tank and makes voctechs on the opposite side of the tank. The only problem I've seen with the prototypes are the controllers. They have very little controllability.

Yea if maxspect can do a wireless controller like vortech's and have multiple pump sync together that would make them even more popular.
