I've never heard of this stuff before, but I was watching video and they said use this material and you can take your pipes apart, but still leak-proof.

Anyone heard of this stuff or used it with success or failure?

I'm getting a new tank, just had someone take the old tank and I realize how much easier it would have been to clean the sump if I could remove it and put it back.

I could use the fittings that allow you to do that, but I'm concerned about them leaking vs. sealing the pipes.

You mean like Teflon paste?
blue demon makes a great one, it’s typically used by pro plumbers. I use on combination with Teflon tape, works for a solid seal. Might be too messy for aquarium use, so use sparingly.

Why not just do a spears valve on wherever you need to disconnect to get the piping off. Seems easier. Also don’t see the huge benefit in doing deep cleans in a sump. You may actually cause a mini cycle is you over do it.

Ya, that's a good point. I guess seeing my sump after 7 years I need a better way to clean it on the old one. Didn't think about the cycle. After looking at the spears valve, that might be the trick, thanks for the recommendation.

The only way cleaning yor sump is going to cause a cycle, is if you don't have a decent amount of live rock in your tank, and you let all the live rock and sand dry out.

No necessarily true, I’ve seen ppl do this and go through this. This was actually narrowed down by Steve g, which comes from maybe the most knowledgeable reefer I know.
