Oh man. I have neglected the tank like a mofo. Po4 and No3 are out of whack and I got a gha breakout. I started running my fuge 24/7 and the gha has been disappearing.

Also, I haven’t done anything to check the Aptasia except add 2 file fish and a copper band. The file fish ate all the little aptasia but left the big ones behind. Yes, aptasia also do really good when you feed phytoplankton. I haven’t taken pictures in a while because the tank looked like crap. It still does but not like before.

Yesterday I waged war on the aptasia and kalked a whole bunch of them.

Round 2 of my war with aptasia. I got rid off a lot of aptasia the first time around but there were still several big ones. I kalked several more today. My next issue will be the gha growing on my rocks. I think it’s from a lack of biodiversity in bacteria. I’ll probably start dosing mb7 or zeobak. Maybe some Dr. Tim’s.

Any way here’s what the tank looks like

GHA such a pain in the ass. The corals are looking happy, great PE!
Thanks! The GHA is completely my fault. I threw some cipro in the tank and killed off my beneficial bacteria. Then I got cyano so I treated with chemiclean. I just poured a bottle of Dr Tims One and Only to see if I can get it back on track.

So…… it’s not gha. It’s byropsis!
I should have looked closer anyway, this algae out break is completely my fault. I treated the tank with cipro and I guess that killed off my beneficial bacteria. Shortly after that I got Dino’s and then this algae. At first I thought it was GHA. No wonder my treatment wasn’t working. I few days ago I took a closer look and saw the fern type leaves.

First day of fluconazole treatment

Flux RX is kinda hard to mix. I heated up some RODI in the microwave and mixed it in a clean water bottle. Mixed clear in a few minutes. A guy on R2R was trippin that I did that but everything seemed to go fine, and it worked still.

lol why was he freaking out? i won't lie i mix it decently enough then just pour it in, doesn't seem to bother much

the other option would be to use dimethyl sulfoxide, but i've avoided needing to buy that so far

Not sure, someone asked about mixing it in a thread over there, so I mentioned what I did. He said use a blender/bullet which seemed a bit extreme to me but hey to each our own! :)

Day three after treatment:

I scraped some byropsis off the overflow and I put my gyres and mp40s in citric acid to get rid of the byropsis growing on them. I think I’m starting to see some gray on the stuff growing on the rocks.

Man, it’s a lot easier to do this when the tank looks good. Anyway, day 6 of treatment, byropsis keeps on dying. Unfortunately it took some sps with it.
