So how are most reefers measuring PAR? Does everyone own their PAR meter or rent one or borrow from other reefers? And is there any benefit to measure PAR while tank is still empty?

I have set up the lights but unsure how high to set the lights or which settings to use to get adequate PAR for SPS.

if you have one that I can borrow, let me know. I’m in Orange.

I borrowed one from another reffer but I’ve been thinking about buying one for my business.

Taking par readings with out water is pointless because water lowers par. Set the tank up and once it’s running take par readings and adjust your lights accordingly

I would purchase PARwise if you can. It's a super useful tool with added features that a common par meter doesn't have. You get spectral graphs, DLI and you'll be able to update the software as new features are released. You can use any tablet or phone that uses Android OS. A feature that I really like is altering spectrum without changing intensity. For old schoolers like myself, measuring my halides (or T5's) lets me track the spectral and intensity shift over time. I also can place corals from my LED into my halide system without any issues.

I have a PARwise myself, and for the price its worth buying. Not only does it give you info on par, but also the spectrum, and its quite nifty. Besides adjusting the intensity, it helps you adjust the spectrum too (if your lights have multiple channels).
