So, several days ago I posted an ad for a 40g (or similar sized tank) with stand. I wasn't looking for anything fancy, as I only would use it to move and hold my current livestock in a nano for a new build that I'm putting together. I offered to buy or rent/borrow from someone with the hopes of only using it for a month or so. I know it was a tall order, especially not knowing everyone here on the forum. I figured I would just have to buy something and move along, no biggie.
The day of my post I received an offer to buy a tank with a wooden stand for $200 and it didn't look new at all. I did post in my ad that I wanted to stay around $100 or less, but obviously there's always someone trying to make a buck from someone else (most likely a new reefer or someone ignorant about the hobby). I won't reveal who this person is, but he proceeded to drop the price to $100 for just the tank, mind you, the tank he was offering me was in fact a 40b and it looked used. After I made him aware that you could buy a new one for $55, he lowered his price to $50. WTF? You can see how new reefers just getting into the hobby can get scammed in a heartbeat by these guys, it's a real shame to be honest. But, here's the good part of the story and something that's worth sharing for all. Another reefer, who I'll acknowledge now, @Speaker73 was kind enough to offer up his converted 40b AIO with stand to me, to use for free. Having never met one another or really interacting among this forum, this is pretty trusting and generous of him. I offered to give him some money and frags, etc for his offer, but he refused. All I can say is, thank you, thank you and thank you! It's people like him that make me want to pay it forward even more. I'll do everything I can to repay him for his kindness, but I also wanted to share this with everyone, hoping that some of you will be like @Speaker73 and pay it forward. I know I will, as I always try to pay it forward as much as I can.
Happy reefing everyone!
