Hey guys I'm looking to get me a pair of dragon face pipefish. But was reading that they might not do well with larger fish. Was wondering if anyone had trouble with pipefish in a large setup with I would say 20 fish or so. Some large tangs, clowns, and anemones.

Been looking for a pair for seahorse setup .. Sadly I doubt they will do well in a busy reef . A lot like seahorses.. Very deliberate slow feeders and easily stressed. Not a hard fast rule.. There is always the exception , maybe someone has tried it. Following along ..

I have pipefish. I have had them for abut a year now. They are in my 135g with tangs, clows, goby and all kinds of corals. They do awsome. They are scavenger's and will eat copods. I did loose one to a carpet so I got rid of the carpet.

Yea. I saw them. But be careful at pw. I bought a wild colony sps from them a few weeks back and dipped it but didn't qt it. I saw red bugs on it a few days a go. So my tank is go on lock down. I've read that pipefish have been known to be good red bug eaters. Witch make sense. They love to hang on to sps and why wouldn't they feed on parasites that may live on the corals.

Not that red bugs are no big deal, I'm sure... but dragon pipes are said to decimate them .. used as a natural means of removal I read :)

I've also had these guys for years. They've always done well in my tank. No issues other than high flow.. even then they seam to just stay in the lower flow areas. Never had an issues with other fish in way either. So cool to watch them hunt for pods 24/7.

NOTE: they can and might get caught in any maxi minis so if you have any just be aware.

I had an australian banded pipefish for just about 2 years... it ate mysis shrimp as well as foraged the rocks and such at night. Definitely slow feeders but mine managed to adapt. During the day it would hang out in the back with the least amount of flow but at night it would swim all over once the other fish were asleep.

I had my dragon pipe fish for 3 years in my reef tank. She lives with a huge chevron tang, clowns, cbb, and wrasses with out any problems. She also eats small pellets for the win.

If it doesn't I'd rather live with the red bugs. I've done the interceptor thing b4 and not planning on it again. The coral that does have them is super happy with great PE. Id rather live with the bugs then kill my entire pod population. I'm not one for selling corals so I really don't have to wipe them out.

I have a pair of dragon faced pipes for over 2.5 years. I also have a pair of Australian blue line and a pair of Janns. I have over 130 fish in my tank and nobody bothers the pipes. And when it comes to flow I haven't seen anything more powerful that my 2 story surge tank and that's been running for 10 years.

I have also kept the Banded pipes in the past as well. The Dragon Faced pipes are the only ones that are NOT nocturnal and not shy. The other pipes only show up at dawn or dusk.

In the past I have had them eat frozen Cyclopeeze. Mine are just constant hunters.

I have heard the rumors about them hunting red bugs. But I have had red bug issues in the past with the pipe fish in the tank. So I wouldn't rely on them to prevent any outbreaks.
