Hello Gang!

Do any of you keep your heater in the overflow box? I was thinking about doing it on my new build but I'm interested in hearing from you guys. I like the idea of keeping it out of sight and sump to save some room. The tank is glass with a siliconed in acrylic overflow box. What are your thoughts?

Thanks!:hello:

I have seen other do this with no issues. As long as the water is deep enough to cover the entire heater shouldnt be an issue. Only thing I can think of would be if it would heat the small amount of water too quickly and not actually reflect the true temp of the tank. Espically if you didn't run a lot of flow through the overflow and return

What do you think about running the heater off a controller and placing the thermometer elsewhere in the build? The pump will be pushing about 790 gph, 10-13x turnover and hour. I have an APEX for this build but I haven't set it up as I don't have water in it yet, I'm just making plans. Thanks for any advice.

I don't see a problem with it, the way I always set mine up though is heater AFTER temp probe on my controller. Im not sure if you run a controller or not but when I had my other tank and I put the heater before the temp probe on my apex, the controller would trigger my heater outlet every 15-20 min. Now I have my heater in one of my baffles and the temp probe where my drain is at in my sump.
