I received a note from my landlord they are doing emergency repairs to the power today from 1-3pm. Since it is in the middle of the day and I'm down to a single fish I figure it won't be anything to worry about, but in the future I might not have warning and will hopefully have a few more fish.

Is anyone using a UPS on their tank? I was thinking of connecting the heater, in tank skimmer and maybe a small powerhead.

Thoughts?

I figureed if you plug in a heater + powerhead on a decent UPS, you'll probably get at most, 30min...

A drop in ph can kill your tank faster than your temp... Just plug in your powerhead in your UPS and you may get about ~3hours depending on what powerhead and UPS you're using. I used a Koralia 425 and a UPS (forgot what model) and I got about 2 hours out of the UPS... I've been looking at getting a mp10 + battery backup since I have a small nano and I'm probably going to run the mp10 at most, 25% of the full power and I might get at least more than 36hours...

Though long term since we live in socal with random blackouts, you might wanna look at gasoline generators...

Power out means survival mode and you want to maximize your run time. I run my vortech nothing else on my backup battery. It runs for about 4 to 5 hours.

For sure don't plug in heater, energy hogs. Skimmer is not really necessary I've gone for days without a skimmer with out issue. Powerhead is the only thing you should plug in.
