How bad are the scratches?
Very minor if any. Nothing I can specifically remember but based on the age there got to be something I’m assuming. if you want to come take a look in person to see, feel free to let me know

Nice tank.

The used tank market is crazy these days! You have to give stuff away now.
Yup 2 years after COVID now people are starting to settle back into normal life and realize that this is a chore that you really have to love.

It’s all good - I’m working a second shift to buy more salt, pumps, lights, and of course — more corals. Things are much more expensive, thanks to inflation and ..price gouging. Reefing is my life man! 😁

I have been away for that long and happy to be back. I had been reefing for 9 years up to 08. I finally settled down to a place were I could do it again. You know that whole adulting thing...LOL. I'm quite happy to be back at it again and very happy to take on the "chore"

Yeah the price gouging has gotten rather insane. I can't believe people are willing to pay what they will these days just for a slight variation in striated or speckled colors on their corals.

Marketing gimmicks, complimented by LED lighting, camera filters, and of course — Photoshop.

Back to the OP’s setup - I would love to buy it but I already have 4 tanks. I’m sure the OP and previous owner spent a fortune on the equipment, not counting salt, test kits, dosing, etc. Corals and fish are extra! Ouch

yeah. Seems there are so many used tanks available these days. Could be people who got into hobby during Covid and now don’t have time. That’s a bummer. Could the price increase to be I. The hobby. Or a combination of the two?

I’ve been reefing a little over 20 years. Boy has the hobby changed lol.

on my first tank- I didn’t even know what alkalinity was. The only “test” we did was a swing arm salinity test. I would mix instant ocean and tap water for water changes 😂. Anyone who got in the hobby fairly recently has a great advantage. I wish the information and equipment available today was available then.

I think the right person for this tank will come around eventually lol. It’s truly a nice tank.

I think it’s a combination of both: economy and personal lifestyles.

I’ve actually tried to GIVE away my Oceanic 175g bowfront that I paid $$$ 15’ish years ago. It has a few scratches and I’m OCD so wanted to get rid of it. The tank sat empty in the garage for 7 years. Anyway, after a few flakes, I’ve decided to turn it into a nem tank (see pic). That was 8mos ago and the tank is doing great!

I can relate to the OP. Good luck! If you can’t find a buyer, just keep it and come back later?

I think it is a few factors...the hobby has gotten prohibitively more expensive and huge inflation to everything. So people have to decide where they want to spend their money.

Also, people have less time now to take care of their tank. They have to go back to work, work more hours or travel for work. Naturally, the tank suffers and it requires even more time to fix it, which you don't have. It's a feedback loop until you just decide to leave the hobby.

The learning curve got a lot steeper. Today, there is information overload. If you are a newbie, you don't know what is BS and what works. There are simply too many options right now for everything. Back in the days, you got 1 brand of salt, Instant Ocean. You used the swing arm salinity checker. The only rock option is live rocks. Basic controllers with pH and temp only. Lights were either MH or T5/CF. The dosers were your hands. LOL.
