So as most of you know, I don't run filter socks because I am lazy and never change them. I have a powerhead in my sump that keeps most detritus at bay, but the lack of filter socks creates a lot of noise when water trickles down the filter sock compartment. Water just splashes down making a loud drain and trickling noise.

So I looked into the Royal Exclusiv drain silencers and I didn't want to pay that much for a simple device. I also went the DIY route, but I didn't want to get my hands dirty. So I contact Advanced Acrylics and asked them if they can reproduce the silencers. To my surprise, they're already mass producing them and I was able to buy three to test out.

In sum, I am very happy with them. They really dampen the splashing noise and I can't hear it outside of the stand. But enough rambling...I made a video to highlight the differences in nose.

They also make these for 7" filter socks.

if you cover the hole in the middle.... should be more quiet right...? like, put a piece of paper towel over it... LOL, or make an air silencer for it...

The piece of red PVC is just a handle to quickly remove them without getting your fingers wet.

So your sump design doesn't allow you to extend the drain pvc below the water line?

All the drains are under water, but the water travels up to the sock holder tray and drains there. Without the socks, the water splashes down that tray making a lot of noise.

Come on man! I bought a big *** sump from AA last year and when I finally set up my new tank/sump I emailed John twice about these types of silencers and never got a response. I ended up doing some DIY ones that are kinda dinky...

Apparently, they just started to produce these. He made mine yesterday and got them today. I either email John or text him. It's the best way to reach him.
