I have 4 radions over my 240 gallon tank, they are down to 40%, but my zoas seem to be melting. The LPS and Nems are doing good and I'm getting a pretty good amount of algae. What are other people running on a tank this size. I'm having a debate with my wife regarding we need more power vs. less power on the lights. We are thinking of going down to 3 or 2. When I first put them up they melted some hammers, which is why they are only at 40% now. Any help would be great.

if your not doing sps get the wide lenses, what type of algae is it? Im running 2 radion pro normal lenses on a 90 gallon 36 by 24 by 24 at 75 percent power 14 inches off the surface....im able to keep zoas on the bottom half of the tank no problem, i have pink zippers colony directly under the lights mid way up.....so it might not be the light thats the problem....

What type of algae are we talking? I've had hair algae irritate zoanthids to closing and melting.

I have 3 g3 pros with wide lenses on a 100g, 20" tall tank. They are 10-12" above the water surface ramping up to 40% peak 14k preset for a few hours. My zoanthids are all on the sandbed.

I'm run 5 radions on my 300 gallon 8'X2'X2.5'wide. All 5 radions run at a 100% 10 hours a day. With a one hour ramp up and ramp down period. So the lights are on 12 hours a day and I have no problems with dying zoas.

See in the first pic there's about 15p and in the second pic there's almost double then the first. Those pics are only a month apart

Im running 3 on a 225 but 40 percent is where people usually seem to have them at. Id say that zoas don't need much light and if the do they stretch their stocks up. Maybe you have them to high? That being said 3 would be the min. you could have on your tank size. what are your water chemistry levels at?

dang.. Eric, those are pro's or regular's? 80% and peak at 100%? you are brave lol.
Gen 1's

The deep blues, blues, and white are at 100% from 8am to 6pm. The Reds and greens ramp from 0 to 100% then back down to 0 in between the 10 hours.
Not brave
Think about it. All these people say hey I can't grow sps with LEDs. Why cause there not running them at full power. U can't tell me u think LEDs r brighter then the muthaf**** sun. If u believe that then go back to school. I can't even believe LEDs are brighter then halides. I've never been burnt from standing under led lights all day like I have from standing under a halide for one hour. If I could run my radions at 200% I would. There's nothing u could say that would make me think LEDs can be stronger then the sun.
Think about this for a min. What makes corals get there colors?
Zooxanthellae right!
What does zooxanthellae do for the corals?
Acts like sun screen inside the corals. The higher the intensity of the the more zooxanthellae the coral produces. There for better color and more growth.
That's a little food for thought.
I'm not saying I'm totally right but come on guys/girls stop fallowing the leader and think out side the box. All these people say "hey 100% LEDs is way to strong for corals" and one guy says umm no! and backs it up with photos why would u still believe the others that can't back up there thoughts.

I'll be totally honest if I could afford to have 5 more radions and afford to run them I would.

Also to add if every one says that LEDs are to strong for corals then what's stopping the manufactures for not just making weaker lights so the people have to run them stronger. And in my opinion they wouldn't b strong enough.

that fish looks like it has a sunburn. :)

I'm going to take some water in for a phosphate test today. I'm suspecting my RODI unit is crap.
