An innovation that was created decades ago that's pretty much obsolete with dosing supplement and dosers.

pros: enables replenishment of trace elements via leaching. Set it and forget it.

cons: how are these replenishment controlled? Every system is different and often has specific needs (especially SPS or Clam). How much is enough to meet the need? Must be recharged every 2 years.

For easy tanks its acceptable... for advance tanks a dosing system is more effective

Its messy and I used it for at least a year. After not using it I notice no difference at all. So I would not recommend it.

I use in two tanks with great success. 50 and a 180. Much cheaper and easier than all the dosing sh!t. I would not take the time to use other methods.

U can get the trace elements with regular water changes with any decent salt mix. Youll still need to dose for alk cal and mag anyways. The only real benefit I can see if harboring an anaerobic bacterial zone similar to a deep sand bed only you use less depth of mud as its thicker.
