I got a power outage notice from SCE. The power will be off over night next week. My concern is regulating temperature since it gets so cold. My house has an automatic pilot so it will be inoperable. I was thinking about getting a battery back up and running a 200W heater and one of the MP60's on the lowest setting in constant mode. The outage will happen from 10pm to 7am. How big of a battery back up will I need? I know that a gas powered generator would be best but that's not an option at the moment. Would running a heater and 2 air pumps be a better option? The DT has probably just under 100G TWV in it. Would getting a deep cycle battery and a power converter be a better option?

Thanks in advance

I have a couple of belkin backups with the right connectors for the mp60 if you wanna borrow it. It ran both my mp40s for 2 days

home depot and rent a power generator, at half load its about 8 hours, so if your running just the essentials a full tank should last the night. or depending when you sleep full the tank up before you sleep

Two battery powered air stones. Ditch the MP60 idea. Not having flow to your corals for 8 hours or less is no big deal.

As far as the temperature, crank your thermostat up until 10pm... you might be sweating a little but your house will take longer to cool down. Close all the windows and put some towels at any gaps say under a door or whatever.

If you insist on a backup battery, I would only put the heater on it.

I know you said a generator is not an option but is that because you don't want to purchase right now? If so, then maybe rent a generator?

tell sce that you have medical needs for electrically supplied air flow (not a lie), they'll drop off a battery powred generator for free.

I know you mentioned that a generator isn't possible but there are some pretty economical ones. I bought a gas generator on Amazon for less than $200 with free prime shipping to use in case of a power outage. There is 900 watts for $110 and 1800 watts for $170 on there.

I have a small little HFT generator you can borrow. It's pretty much brand new. Only turned it on to try it. I think it should run your heater and mp60. Probably not the quietest one but if you have a garage or somewhere you can put it with ventilation I don't think it would bother the neighbors. You can probably run it intermittently at night, long enough to bring the tank temp back up if it drops. Lmk. I can take it to work (Fontana) tomorrow if you want to borrow it.
