solitude127 did Sanjay write the article?

I wish they didn't mention the Elegant Coral guys, and the guy that that profited off of the Walt Disney acro hahaha... both vendors who charge a fortune for frags... some of which never color up. Or Elegant Corals who lineage a piece that everyone and their mother has but charge $500 a frag because it has a "story".

Ya, I've found all of these Paletta authored articles lately to be underwhelming at best. Over simplified and really nothing that hasn't been said and covered before elsewhere many times. Just for all the names dropped, so little actual useful info. Also, important to point out that like you say some of these frags will never look like their "mother colonies" and may never look like the picture. Take a look at a lot of the Tyree SPS featured on his auction site for big $$, in a lot of cases, his little frag for sale barely looks at all like the parent colony's coloration.

I swear they make it seem like these people live in fiji or some remote tropical island and hand picked these corals out of the ocean when the truth is they're probably some nerdy guys living in mom's basement and getting first dibs at the wholesalers everyone else goes to. Maybe they do, I dunno but I don't buy into the LE hype. However, it's a hobby and I do get it's all about putting in what you want to enjoy out of it and I won't hate on those that are into LE corals and lineage etc..

I think the first consensus stated in the article may be the most important point. If you want colored coral make sure you buy colored corals. With the exception that some colorful colonies that we see may be "wild" or even maricultured pieces that have not lived in a tank long enough to prove the colors to be true. There is a lot to be said about both 1) tank raised corals and 2) vendors that keep colonies intact for many months validating the survivability of both the coral and its colors.

I am not suggesting that all the other factors mentioned like lighting , flow, stability, etc are not vitally important. It's just that some very bright, colorful coral do so well under a variety of conditions in many reefers tanks eg., red planet, strawberry shortcake, Joe the coral, pink Floyd, on and on. Tried and true, it's hard not to have them do well.

Maybe if I tried potassium and iron, who knows what I might find

Ugh the bounce craze has ruined me. 400$ doesn't even seem like that much compared to some of these bounce shrooms being sold

No secrets revealed in that adverisment/"article".

If its all about lineage then why dont these people give out certificates with coral like the AKC does with dog breeds? Because its hard to proove, there are not standards (please frag plugs, number or colors, catchy name). Its all about branding. We all know they came from the ocean 2 weeks ago, 2 decades ago. Hobbiests did not breed them. If you stare long enough, you will start to believe.
