I just hooked up my new Aquamaxx Calcium reactor last night and I noticed the Sicce re-circulation pump gets pretty hot!! I called Marine Depot and they said it's "normal"??
I meant I never see or felt any small external pump that gets even this hot. Have any of you have similar experience?

Strange. I'll feel my Eheim pump when I get home. Off memory mine is warm, not hot.

Agreed! the water is recirculating inside the reactor and the pump adds more and more heat each pass. There is really nut much way for the water to cool until it gets out of the reactor. Pretty normal from what I have experienced.

Yeah I realized that but none of my old circulation pump gets this HOT though. It's also brandnew. I meant it's so hot I can't put my finger on it for more than 2-3 secs w/o getting burn.

Which reactor are you using, it might run a little cooler if you put the reactor in your sump.
The Aquamaxx S2. no room in sump and the pump location is all the way on top of the reactor.

Not this hot though.

Really? Never experienced this before. The Ehiem pump on my old reactor just feels lightly warm. This's crazy. I was just worry there might be some electrical problem with the pump. Don't want to start an electrical fire...
