I just checked my tank before going to bed and it looks like my skimmer decided to overflow and about a half cup of nastiness just went back into my tank. I shut off the return pump and only had enough water to do a 5% water change. I don't have any carbon on me but I will get some tomorrow and I will do a 20% water change. It looks like the fish and coral are doing fine for now. Is there any reason to panic or worry about serious side effects from the skimmer overflowing back into the sump? I also turned the return pump back on after the water change. Thanks guys.

should be fine I wouldn't worry test nitrates before u do a water change because it may not be needed
Thanks for the reply Robert! I was seriously freaking out. Idk what made the skimmer freak out. I haven't added any medicine and I just topped off with a little RO water. It didn't raise the water level enough to were it should freak out like that.

I 've come home knowing my skimmer cup was half full of dark skimmate (1 gallon collection cup) finding out it overflowed. Tank looked like ***. Adjusted the skimmer and let it run and it picked up 80% of the skimmate working a few hours and the rest within a day or two. So yes your ate fine no need for wc or carbon. If you like you can skim a little more wet for today.
