Hello Gang,

I picked up this "Coralife Super Skimmer Needle Wheel" about a year ago. I installed it but it never worked so I pulled it after a week. I was looking into mods and custom installs last week and I decided to give it another shot with my own handy work. These come with a collection box for the skimmer return water and it doesn't fit in my sump with the skimmer. Note, I haven't scene one of these with a in-sump install but it's said that it can be done.

So the problem with not using the return water collection box is that it slows down the water leaving the skimmer and it reduces the micro bubbles dropped back into the sump. I tried a piece of PVC that goes below the water line to slow down the water. The problem with this is I still get the micro bubbles. So I made a manifold out of made out of PVC. The manifold has a breather so air can escape before it hits the water. Anyway, it's working but I'm not sure how good. Below is a picture 40 hr into skimming. What do you guys think is the normal skimate? :conf44:

Thanks for reading.

I have that skimmer hob of my solana right now and it works perfectly...before that I had it in the sump and the only problem with that is you can't have too much water in the sump, if you do, it's going to skim out wet like the pic you posted..hope that helps

This one is going to take some thinking. I wonder how I can adjust for having it in the sump? I really dont want a HOB setup. Thanks for the input!

Is it normal for "all" skimmers to produce a watery skimate when setup in the sump like this or is it a coralife skimmer problem? Thanks.

hey Nick...if your water is always constant in the sump where your skimmer is placed then what you can do is to put something on the bottom of the skimmer to raise it up a little and then extend the inlet tube from the pump

Good idea, it will have to wait for the new stand I'm going to build. As it is now the skimmer just fits. Thanks, that is a good idea. I'll take another look in just a minute maybe I can work something out.

I have the same skimmer and have no issues with watery skim, just turn the bubbles down as much as possible and it will skim dryer. I am having a huge issue with the micro bubbles. I can't find a solution!:eviltongue:

Have your skimmer output dump into a filter sock..................no more microbubbles

If your return is below the water line, it's creating back pressure on the skimmer.....................it needs to be at or above the water line for the skimmer to work properly
