Suggestions for building a stand bigger than the tank

I have a 36x15x20 acrylic tank that I would like to build a stand for. I want to build it so that the stand is bigger than the tank to accommodate a 40g breeder for a sump. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

As long as you have adequate bracing under the actual tank, you can extend the stand out as far as you want. I have a 36x36x36 cube and built the stand out to 60" to serve as a "bar" that we could sit at and eat or whatever. Wish I still had pics to show you, but as long as you make sure that there's enough bracing under the tank, you should be fine. Hope that helped.
