Hey guys,

My RO/DI system (purchased from BRS) is coming up on six months old and I am thinking I should probably test my water. What are my options? Don't want to spend a crap load of money on expensive tests, just something that will give me a good idea of when I should replace things.

What should I replace and in what order? How often do membranes need replacing, DI cartridge, etc?

You can get an inexpensive TDS meter from an LFS. Usually like $20.

What to replace when in trickier. Ideally you'd have twofer accessories for your RODI. One is a pressure gauge (PG) and the other is an Inline Dual TDS meter (IDT).

The PG you would add to the line before the membrane. Your initial pressure with all new filters is your baseline. When the pressure gets significantly lower than your baseline it's time to change the carbon and sediment filters.

The IDT you install one meter after your membrane and prior to the DI resin. The second probe goes after your DI. The first probe tells you when your membrane is spent ( I think 10 ppm is the max you'd want coming out of the membrane...again, note your baseline and go from there). The second probe tells you what your water looks like after all filtration. I think 3 ppm is the most you'd want before changing your DI but 0 is really what you want. Hope that helps.

Invest in an inline TDS. It will save you time on guessing when they need to be replaced. also when ou do replace filters, write the date down so you have an idea on when you last replaced them
