So I headed over to Ocean Marine Sales oceanmarine today to check out the place and saw a nice Copperband Butterfly that caught my eye (great clean store, by the way). Jesse highly recommended their fish so I took a gamble. According to the owners, the fish has been under a 10 day quarantine with Cupramine and a metro bath. Per Jesse's suggestion, I put it in my QT to ensure that it eats. I didn't see the fish eating after multiple tries, but they've had the fish for about a month. I'm well aware it's a big gamble, but the price was good.

So today begins my journey of keeping a copperband alive. This thread may last months like the last one, or mere days. Either way, I figured I'd document it so y'all could hold my hand like you did with the Regal thread. =P

My Copperband didn't eat for weeks when I first got him, and was very timid. I wondered what was keeping him alive then I noticed all my feather dusters had disappeared. Once they were all gone and everyone was used to each other he began eating the frozen food. Really likes the mysis, and been doing great ever since. Hope you don't mind me sharing my experience and GL!

If heard that copperbands are highly sensitive to pH swings and are usually the silent killers of these beautiful fish. I do know there vary sensitive to environment changes. I had a CB for a few years it ate all me aiptasia and had great personality. It even live though the tank transfer from the 180 to the 300. Then a few months back I bought 14 fish from puck. Shortly after acclimating all the fish the CB stopped eating. With in 2 weeks the CB had passed.

Why is everyone excited about a good price and taking a gamble? Wouldn't paying twice as much and buying an established strong eater be more cost effective? Best of luck though

How many established eating copperband butterflies do you see for sale... none cause once you get one to live you dont sell it.

The only thing that makes me uneasy is the small size of my QT...a 14g. That means that feedings have to be really controlled. Wish I had a bigger QT.

Today, the copperband is still alive, but is shy and hiding behind a rock.

Dear Diary,

Today, the Copperband was alive, but still hiding. I got a hold of live black worms and I dropped some in. He didn't go for them as far as I saw. Is there any other way of feeding them I should try? I didn't put a lot in, just a few.

Dear Diary,

The Copperband is dead. =( He started freaking out this morning swimming frantically, until he suddenly seized to exist. I don't know what happened. Maybe it was the stress from being in such a small tank. For the time being, I'll let this fish go to the experts.
