When building my new 120g mixed reef I was on the hunt for a good protein skimmer that didn't break the bank and I was referred to the Vertex line. The Vertex skimmer is very nicely made and the acrylic is not flimsy whatsoever. When I first got my skimmer I put it in a container with water and vinegar and turned it on and less than 5 minutes later the pump stopped working!! I contacted the store I bought it from and they contacted Vertex for me and they sent me out a new pump within 5 days. I got my tank all setup and I must admit the Vertex does pull out some junk!!! My only complaint is the pump My pump has gone out on me 2 more times since then and this seems to be the downfall to the skimmer.. If they would only use a better quality pump this skimmer would be awesome!! I would suggest this skimmer to friends but I would warn them about the potential fail of their pumps.
