What do you put in your fuge? Looking for some opinions please. Debating on using miracle mud and chaeto again or not in my new tank or just bare bottom with chaeto . Right now I just have a ball of chaeto under a par 38 led from Home Depot.

I don't run a refugium anymore but when I did, I had macro algae with live rock.

I would suggest putting a powerhead (if you don't already), so that your ball of chaeto spins. I noticed that this contributed to greater growth and have read that other members also find this beneficial.

Why did you stop running a fuge?

Chaeto and as mentioned above I have a power head in all 3 chambers so no detritus settles. My middle chamber has a few small pieces of rubble rock for pods. My chaeto spins and the growth is ridiculous and it is the darkest green you'll ever find. I also light my fuge 24/7. Pods are everywhere along with baby trochus, and a ton of stomatella. I don't use a sock anymore because I would find too many pods and snails in there to make it worth the small particles it removed.

I have mud, with some live rock and cheato. My cheato does not tumble but doubles in size every two months. My nitrates never are above 0 even if I go a month without water changes. My phos stay around .08 no matter what. I have 2 turbo snails in there and pods are everywhere.

Why don't you want the detritus to settle in the sump. I thought, that is where it suppose to live until you pump it out or pods eat it.

Any detritus on the bottom is bad. You got to keep it suspended so your skimmer can remove the inorganics.

I'm running miracle and chaeto in my sumps fuge with matrix rubble in a TLF reactor < a pod factory. If I run miracle mud in my next setup it will be in a different chamber than my chaeto. It kept me from adding a power head to the fuge, so I have to turn mine manually every week, or the bottom dies off and turns white.

Do you need sand or some thing like that in a fuge with Chaeto and LR or does a bare bottom one work just as well?
