My tank is going through a cycle and someone has offered me some free Chaeto. I'll be picking it up this afternoon. Is it a bad idea to add it during the middle of a cycle period? My biggest concern is that the ammonia/nitrite levels will kill the chaeto. Any thoughts?

Chaeto eats nitrates and phosphates, its a plant. The problem you may have is not enough nutrients to sustain it right now. As long as it doesn't turn brown and dissentigrate you should be fine. If not its free get some more hehe

Add it. If it dies, I'm sure some here on SCR is getting rid of it. I just got rid of a 2g pale of it this weekend.
