Anyone running BK, ATB,Deltec or any other high end skimmers? I am replacing the pump on my Skimz(again), and I may just sell it and be done with it. Looking at getting a 150 CAD tank in the future here and I would need something for that size.

Favoring BK but, willing to listen to more cost-efficient options.

Thanks

Funny how BK are the best and I see complaints. I have an ATB and have never seen anyone complain about an ATB. Just my thoughts.

Yeah get an ATB, have had the 840 for more than 3 years and haven't had a problem with it yet. Sicce pumps are built to last.

i got an atb and am starting to like it again... i think i might have it too high though.

i was having a lot of overflow issues until i noticed the air hose was clogged up with salt. since i cleaned it out its been running awesome again! and super quiet.

I have a vertex Alpha and its a BA skimmer. i had an ATB 1050 before and i wasnt a fan of how loud it was. The vertex alpha 170 is quieter and more suited to my tank (150 gallons)

You are so right Andy. The Vertex Alpha 170 I had was many times more quiet than my ATB 840. Having said that, the ATB 840 pulled twice the amount of crud that the 170 pulled. So atleast for me, I would go ATB all day long if you have the space for it and it's in a stand. I say inside a stand because last time I ran the ATB, it was loud because it was out in the open.

Bk double cone with speedy pump is my choice. I had the 300 external deluxe and loved it. At the end get what u want that's all that matters.

Really, i think if you are willing to spend the skrilla on a BK you should just do it. The others work really well, but BK is top dog for a reason.

i guess if you have the money for a Bk go for it. I would have but I'm very happy with my atb. I never thought it was loud at all.

Mine was in an open stand. So by loud, I just mean it was louder then the rest of my equipment. I also don't think I ever found the skimmers sweet spot for depth. And I think it was oversized for my tank haha

If I was filthy rich like JOSE CASAS I would go ATB or BK also. Since I'm just filthy, I will stick with my simple litto swc 160

I've Cadlight 150 ran about month or so and previous owner had it few weeks. almost new, dead silent. PM me if you're interested. I like to sell because it's too big and I cant turn the body to adjust the water level.

ATB for me. BK was out of my budget. For my 150, I would have really like to try the BK SuperMarin 200. I do have the ATB Elegance 200 and I really like it. IMO, the Askoll motorblocks are much quieter than the Sicce motorblocks.

So your Elegance has an askholl motor?

The pump on mine isn't loud per se, but I can definitely hear it.

The "highest end" skimmer I ever ran was a Deltec AP. I currently run a bunch of Reef Octopussies. I honestly canT tell you a skimmer made a huge difference, no matter the make. Ive been doing WCs every two weeks since the beginning.

The vertex omega 200i utilize a askoll motor. I have had a vertex alpha cone200 w rd1500 and most recently a vertex omega150 with a sicce syncra motor. Never really had a problem and both are silent..
