Hi all,

Buying an acclimation box seems a poor investment since I only plan to use it for a very short time. Just ordered a yasha goby, court jester goby and a blue star leopard wrasse from Dr. Reef. Going into my office 40g with a Tailspot blenny and exquisite firefish. Don't know much about acclimation box procedures, but I understand it can help--I'm particularly concerned with the leopard wrasse since they have a hard enough time with shipment.

Anyways, does anyone have an acclimation box collecting dust they don't mind lending? I'm in Irvine but don't mind driving a bit for pickup, especially south OC where I drop my kids off for preschool.

Thanks!

I have one in Anaheim. To be honest I don't think there is any need to use one when adding those fish with your existing fish. I would not expect agression between any of them and I would think it would add to the stress of the wrasse, not reduce it.

Thank you! Basically what I concluded after talking to the "wrasse lovers" on the other forum. The blue star is going right in. Court jester and the yasha, not sure yet. Probably right in. It's the clown pair that goes in last I'm most worried about. They've been alone in a 13.5g for a year and a half.

i'd acclimation box the wrasse to make sure it's adjusted to your lighting schedule. even just a few hours in there might help. ideally it's already adjusted to our time zone from dr reef's qt, but just in case, that'd be what i'd do. if it's relentlessly diving at the bottom you can always let it out

the only other thing i can think of is, what size netting do you have on there? the 1/4" is too big for some of those fish, so i'd caution the 1/8" at least. but if the firefish hasn't been flying out i'm guessing you're good

Would you put sand in the acclimation box?

Think it's 1/4" netting. The firefish has never jumped or done so when I'm around at least. The tailspot made it through the net once and flopped around on top of the net then back in the tank--I observed that one.

nah no sand, you don't want it to bury and hide. but like i said i'd just watch it so if it's freaking out i'd just let it loose. worst thing is it damaging its mouth

i'd considering redoing it with the 1/8" netting, the firefish and yasha gobies are notorious for flying through screen tops. and apparently tailspot blennies lol
