My take is that there are so many reefers getting out of the hobby these days that it's probably cheaper to scoop some good deals on liverock than making your own.

You nailed it! No openings and it does feel like soft cheap plastic and it is growing super fast on my hob overflow along with ulva lactuca. Must have come in as a hitchhiker on the aussie live rock that I used to set up this tank almost 10 months ago.

If you decide to get it, I have a small acclimation station you can borrow.

I agree with @drexel regardless of the type of tubing, it's stuff that grows in the pump too. My last 5 footer that I broke down had white pvc plumbing return and wen I would do water changes, all the crap similar to what u showed in the video would come out of my returns. i opened up my vectra...
