FS: rainbow BTA, recent split, pickup Irvine

Found a second rainbow yesterday. I have a nem cannon on it today to get it off the rocks. $20 Paypal takes it (cash doesn't work, I don't get to keep it). Basically covers costs for the sponges, PVC and the nem cup, haha! When it comes out of the cannon, I will place it in the nem cup with...

    Be prepared--QT'd wrasses arriving tomorrow

More good news. Dropped by the office this AM and the blue star leopard came out of the sand and stayed out while I was feeding: Not sure if she's in the clear yet, but much better prospects than 2 days ago! The two yellow coris wrasses are acting totally normal and eating well.

    Be prepared--QT'd wrasses arriving tomorrow

Good news! The M. bipartitis popped her head out of the sand this morning. Got scared when I moved and did a 180 back into the sand, but that's a good sign! The yellow coris wrasses have been out and about hunting--having to dump Reef Nutrition food in, because there's no pod population in...

    Be prepared--QT'd wrasses arriving tomorrow

Update, yellow coris wrasses still alive as of 5:30pm today (when I left office). Will see how they are in the AM. Before leaving, I had them eating hatched brine shrimp, Reef Nutrition ROE + Pac Pods + Arcti Pods and both were eating well. Unfortunately, I disturbed the new sand and all the...

    Be prepared--QT'd wrasses arriving tomorrow

That's really unfortunate, sorry! I think with some wrasses, it's still best to get them locally, although pre-QT'd fish are also a great value. I won't try another leopard in shipment and will set up a QT system if/when I want another.

    Be prepared--QT'd wrasses arriving tomorrow

He and I have been discussing this. This was a replacement for my previous M. bipartitis that came with a dislocated jaw and died during acclimation. We discussed doing a trial run: one M. bipartitis in a black bag, one in a bag with sand. I also ordered the H. chrysus and same trial. All bags...

    Be prepared--QT'd wrasses arriving tomorrow

Good news, both Halichoeres chrysus are alive and hunting baby brine shrimp together: The blue star leopard wrasse went into the sand or under a rock. So I don't know when or if I will see her, but she was swimming, albeit erratically and possibly injured, before she went into hiding, so...

    Be prepared--QT'd wrasses arriving tomorrow

So far, it looks like we have 2 yellow coris wrasses alive and in acclimation, buried in sand. The blue star leopard wrasse might pull through, but still looking like a long shot.

    Be prepared--QT'd wrasses arriving tomorrow

Unfortunately, the second blue star leopard wrasse didn't make the trip, and it's looking like the first blue star leopard is on its way out. Healthy-looking bodies, just likely banged itself in the head to death. The yellow coris wrasses are still a wild card. First one looks like it is...

    Be prepared--QT'd wrasses arriving tomorrow

I have two pre-quarantined wrasses arriving tomorrow from Dr. Reef: a blue star leopard wrasse (Macropharyngodon bipartitis) and a yellow "coris" wrasse (Halichoeres chrysus). Caveat is that two of each are being shipped. Mike from Dr. Reef's Quarantined fish is going to trial a variation in...

    Looking for pink streaked wrasse

Yeah, I'd love a pair of pinkies, but running a mostly QT'd system in my office.

    Looking for pink streaked wrasse

How much did you get one for? I'd like one, too, but I don't have a system set up for QT.

    Looking for pink streaked wrasse

They are hard to find right now. I've got several vendors on the lookout. Same for Cirrhilabrus rubeus, the ruby longfin fairy wrasse and a few other wrasses.

Photo of the month - July 2023 - Fish

Ah yes, the classic clownfish hosted by silicone seam, a beautiful and completely natural symbiosis.

    WTB gyre for 3ft tank (e.g., 2K/fx230/fx330)

Hi Isaac, I've been playing with the 2k gyre position. Moved it to the other side of the tank sans nem guard with the forward and backward flow pattern, and that is giving much better flow in the tank. Still not 100% sure if it is "good"--will post a video tomorrow--but I'm worried that a...

FS: Large Sinularia and Trachyphillia (San Diego)

Awesome trachy, Artie. Must be sad to see it go. Still have that beast of a scoly, though!
