    Favorite LFS

I think the sleeper is "Rainbow" in Arleta. If you are versused in coral, they have some steals. I am not sure they have a great deal of knowledge but they are a nice family owned store. Very pleasant to talk to. Nice display tank behind the cash register.

    Transitioning to Zeovits

I had a mature tank. Over two years old. I wasn't using any major mechanical filtration. I used chemipure, phosguard, and denitrate rocks. All were in bags. I wanted to start increasing my coral and fish feeding schedule so I wanted to run a reactor. I know that increased feeding seems...

    Transitioning to Zeovits

I have three unopened bags of ZeoLit and an unopened bag of ZeoCarbon. I will sell the ZeoLit for $8 each and the Carbon for $17. Sorry to not answer your question but I have thought about going back to Zeo but I like the bio pellets I use so I have some overstock that I will not use. I...

Inferno BTA chunked by the overflow box...happy ending

My Inferno has been on the move for a few weeks. It settled close to my overflow. Common sense should have kicked in. After about of week of chilling, I woke up to find that a quarter of the Inferno was sucked into the overflow. Besides freaking out, I quarantined the pieces. The larger...

what size uv sterilizer should i choose?

I wouldn't say ZeoVit is better, it's a personal preference and depends on many factors. For me, ZeoVit media didn't work well with my feeding schedule. I tend to overfeed and I couldn't get my phosphates in line. I switched to EcoBak biopellets and got better results. I added GFO and got my...

what size uv sterilizer should i choose?

18 watt for 100g and 25 watt for 150g. I would calculate net water volume so that you get the actual gallons being sterlized. Flow rate also plays a role in the correct wattage. I have no personal experience to confirm but all the research I have done says that oversized sterlizers will kill...

Hanna Broken, or do I need to start feed............

Remember that there can be a .04 variance, so I wouldn't freak. How long does it take for your glass to get some algae? Observing your tank will help with knowing if phosphates are present but being used by algae or if they are really low.

    D@mn bubble algae.....Help!

Off topic but what salt are you using? I have heard Red Sea has a tendency to foster bubble algae. I have used nothing but Red Sea and I have chronic bubble algae. My phosphates have been near zero for some time.

    Hanna Phosphate Checker

Hanna is the best. I would not get the Calc. I use lab grade ro/di and it still sucks. I have the iron and iodine. I really like the High Range Nitrite. Getting additional reagents is near impossible in the US. I had to get a relative in the UK get me some. Nitrite also tests Nitrate...

    UV sterilizer

Sterilizers will polish the water. It will also kill parasites. If you run a bacteria dependent filtration system, I would recommend against it. As someone said prior, sterilizers will also kill good stuff. Bacteria being one of them. Not to say that it will wipe out the bacteria altogether...

    The HOG

I used the 1.5 for about three weeks without any algae growth on the screen. I had some elevated phosphates that would have led me to believe I would have had some algae growth. The bubbler noise was somewhat annoying. I have two 1.5's for sale. $25/each. Sorry for plugging a sell....
