Drilling 187G tank for coast2coast, final thoughts before diving in?

So after stewing on it a bit I am thinking that I will mount the weir 1/8” below the trim allowing myself a full 1/4” of rise at full flow. using the rectangular contracted weir equation if I can achieve a full 10x turnover (1800gph) and using my estimated 96” weir length I should see something...

Drilling 187G tank for coast2coast, final thoughts before diving in?

interesting, is yours internal/external/built in? Have any pictures of the setup I could see? with my current toothed overflow I really don’t see what the fuss is about, granted I only have 6 fish (1 of them being a wrasse) I can’t imagine how not having the teeth wild make any difference...

New to socalireefs but not new to reefing.

The light rack turned out great, what are you going to use to box it in?

    DanDan's Reef

Tank is looking good, you really jammed a lot of coral in there in no time! how are the nutrient swings in a small tank like that when it’s so new with coral?

WTB an auto top off ATO

If you can’t find one from someone local why not buy a cheap one new? I can recommend the AutoAqua lite, has worked great for me so far and is only $80 from Amazon. You can basically use it with any reservoir you want so long as you can fit the pump inside and the sensor has a magnetic mount so...

    Dorado's 3'x3' Cube

Moonshiner indeed haha, what is the alternative here? I would guess just more water changes and/or some mixed element dosing but at the risk of adding things you don’t need. I am also sending off an ICP just to get a baseline, but glad the tank is doing well!

Drilling 187G tank for coast2coast, final thoughts before diving in?

So I am going to be drilling a 187G tank for my next build and I was hoping to just get a little feedback from any flow and/or internal weir experts. I have a 48” toothless external overflow from Modular marine and my only doubt at the moment is where do I place the top of the weir. The design...

    60G 24x24x24 build, first tank

Some update pics of the tank inhabitants, most everything is doing good. I’ve been battling the nutrients as I mentioned previously and experimenting with the flow a bit to try and keep everything happy. I haven’t actually measured my PAR through out the tank but was losing some color so I’ve...

    60G 24x24x24 build, first tank

I have also been toying with setting up a UV and carbon/gfo reactor. I have a dual BRS that I purposefully left room for but need to figure out how to jam a UV in. I’m thinking I’ll go with icecap because they seem to be the smallest package and have decent reviews. I have the manifold setup...

    60G 24x24x24 build, first tank

thanks Lou, I’m settling into something of a routine at this point. Checking nutrients daily still but I have the dosing at a point I remain fairly constant. I am currently fighting PO4 and NO3 consumption from the ongoing ugly phase and the tank trying to figure itself out. I have added more...

    Is this Zoa melting?

i haven’t been having much luck with that particular Zoa “rainbow infusion”, tried two different frags and both perished quickly. I soon after learned my PO4 and NO3 had bottomed out so I have been working on stabilizing that and maybe in the future I will try again. For being an “easy coral”...

    Neptune ph probe

I bought a BRS lab grade double junction at $65 as a backup for my 2019 Neptune probe lol but haven’t swapped it in yet. The Neptune probe is only $25 more expensive though so I can’t see there being a huge difference in performance, both are lab grade double junction. If you went the $35 single...

    Refractometer issues

you can trust both honestly, not sure if you have the handheld Hanna or the one like the Milwaukee. The accuracy of the Hanna handheld is 0.001 sg and the Milwaukee is 0.002 sg so you could have a mix of 1.025 sg haha why do you have both? I would just pick one and stick to it

AI Prime 16HD reef w/ flex arm mount $180ea or pair for $320

I have two AI prime 16HD reefs with 12” flex arm mounts for sale, they were used for about 6 months on a new cycling tank then taken down. Both lights work great as seen in the pictures. I have pics of each individual LED spectrum as well if interested. Both lights running latest AI firmware...
