Hello from Culver City, glad to be back in California!

Hello Henry, and welcome back to this corner of the US. I live on the West Side as well. I especially like your minimalist style of reef tank. Looking forward to your next one. Why are nano tanks MORE work? More work per gallon you mean? I am thinking of starting second tank - a nano this...

You are balanced now. Just make sure your Mg is 1300-1350, and raise your Ca and Alk equally to get into the center of the center: http://reef.diesyst.com/flashcalc/flashcalc.html Randy's article can help to when things are whacked: http://www.advancedaquarist.com/issues/nov2002/chem.htm

what you guys get this weekend for your tank

Got me a pair of tank bred Bangais, and a purple stag. Oh, and a used 150-F2000/1 skimmer.

    skimmer

Smallest footprint is prolly a Tunze 9010/9011 skimmer (4.4" x 4.9") , but I think it actually takes up more space (like 4.4" x 7" ?) with the mounting bracket or in-sump outlet pipe installed. New they are expensive, but you can sometimes find them used for <$200. I'd get an external skimmer...

    Ground probe

Please note that GFCI wall outlets need to be installed properly (while circuits are off) and tested regularly. Have an electrician so this if you are uncomfortable. They can also wear out if tripped too many times. Last word of warning: do not use the test/reset buttons on a GFCI like a light...

    Ground probe

Everything that is powered on your reef should be GFCI protected. If you are installing GFCI wall outlets, you need to install one GFCI for every circuit used on the tank. The GFCI wall outlet should be installed on the first outlet of the circuit's series. When done properly, the "downstream"...

    Ground probe

You should not use a ground probe without having your equipment powered through a GFCI outlet. Here's an article that explains why: aquarist-found-dead The benefit of a probe is that it will trip the GFCI (after a fault) before you place your hand into the tank. A probe may trip your GFCI...
