I Left for 2 week work trip. Came back and tank crashed. Probably been few days, since one of the gfci outlet pop and there was no water movement in main and return pump. 80% death, except for few acan, and CSB. Went out and bought a carbon reactor, and hopefully it lives. But at this point, I think I'm just going to break down most of this and take a long break. About 6K down the drain, never leave everything on 1 outlet.

That's terrible and sorry that happened. Do you know know what made the gfci pop? This is my number one worry when going out of town.

Heater, power pump, and 2 regular pump on 1 outlet. I think meanly is the 1000w heater and house being very old.

thankfully someone else will learn from your experience. sorry this happened to you man. big tanks really do have higher risks at making you enjoy the hobby less..

My biggest fear as I'm also planning to travel for 3 weeks in the summer.

My GFCI popped yesterday as well. I installed an outdoor outlet cover over my electrical outlet to prevent any accidental splashes popping the GFCI.

There are so many little things that can crash your tank. I was lucky since I was not feeling well yesterday, and called in sick. But noticed that my lights were off, so I checked...and sure enough...the GFCI popped. I quickly reset and got the tank running again. But it could of been a total tank crash if I was at work, and not even aware everything was off.

I am going to hawaii then Bali for 3 weeks In may.
This is exactly what I have so much anxiety about. I am going to hire a company to come once a week And set up cameras.

Peace of mind.

Sorry to hear about your tank!

WIFI ALERTS:
The Leviton SmartLockPro GFCI Outlet is a 15-amp duplex electrical outlet with an onboard Wi-Fi adapter (Leviton model number D2GF1, $34.99 and available at Amazon. A 20-amp version is also available, Leviton model number D2GF2, $39.99 and available at Amazon.) As the name suggests, these new devices are outfitted with a GFCI that shuts off all power to the outlet in the event of a ground fault. This will prevent anyone nearby from suffering an electric shock. The National Electrical Code (NEC) requires GFCI outlets in any locations that could be damp or wet (kitchens, bathrooms, laundry room, etc.). Both outlets, however, are designed for indoor use only.

I always had issues with GFCI and reef tanks. Usually due to LED. For some reason when they'd initially kick on low and start to ramp up it would trip them. There must be some hot to ground bleed internally, with radions, while ramping/initially kicking on. Very annoying. I installed GFCI breakers thinking they'd be higher quality and easier to reset if they did trip but had the same issues. I'm currently just normal outlets/breakers with ground probes.

GFCI is very sensitive to moisture. Which has its pros and cons. For safety, it is great. For the tank running, well, then it may pop and lose everything if you don't catch it in time.

So sorry to hear this. Understand that it’s devastating— many of us have been there. Take a break, learn from it, and improve on the next build.

I have an UPS and if my Apex is out, I would know. I’ve been away for 10d before and outside of algae on the glass, nothing really happened - remote ATO and CaRx. I can pretty much control everything remotely. If WiFi goes out, I’m worried (sucks while on vacation). If that’s the case, I would ask relatives to swing by and watch the tanks.
