That is the question. Going to move to a bigger place, so I thought what a great time to upgrade, but don't know what to get. Can ppl who have theses sizes give me some pros?

I'm assuming you're going reef? If so, the only piece of advice I can give is not to go 30" tall if you're going reef. I had a 30" tall 225 and while it had that wow factor with the "show tank" look, it sure was a PIA to clean (reach bottom) and to aquascape as well. 72"30"24 (225) would be my choice since it's right in the middle of what you're considering.

8', or 6' long, and a must you have to go 36 inches wide. Even my 30' wide 225g tank seems weak in comparison.

Also if you can, I would do 20" in heigh max. Seems to me those extra inches at the top make the scape look lame.

The one thing that bothers me most about my tank is the center back overflow size and the height of the glass, Eye soar.

Good place to see what tanks should look like, is the Sps store in La Caada Flitntridge. Once you see Aaron's 36" wide show tanks you won't ever do anything else.

I have these dims and really like the tank & dont have to have a ton of powerheads, i can reach the back of the tank and dont have any trouble lighting the tank.

Don't you wish it was 20" or lower? And wider? The scape just looks way nicer on deeper tanks and your eyes travel inwards. Your eyes are stopped abruptly on narrow tanks.

I also have those dims on my 225

Take your time and think it thru...
Its easy to say go big....
When I was deciding, I thought about a lot of things, Sure it would be awesome to have a 300 gallon. Then I thought about , would my equipment be able to handle it ? What would I need to upgrade ? $$$. Then I thought about dosing, media, all of which I would have to increase...$$$$ All this was in my decision making..But the one thing that helped me in making a decision was the maintenance....The old saying 25% W/C month. That would be about 75 gal a month, man thats a lot of water, time, effort....
So then I decided what I would be comfortable with in doing maintenance. I didn't want to be a slave to my tank. If this was the only thing I had to worry about, then not a problem. But unfortunately I have many more responsibilities. I then decided on a 170 gal. I'm glad I did. Its in my comfort zone. I have no problem doing the maintenance, and keeping it looking its best...

lol..i was kidding. I have to stick by my 72"30"24" because I think the way Cy does. With those dimensions you don't have to overthink lighting and yet you have tons of aquascaping options. I wouldn't go 20" tall on a tank past 5 feet long because IMO it starts to look like a big frag tank. After all is said and done, I think it comes down to budget and what you want to keep. Light or heavy bioload? Large fish or lots of smaller "schooling" types.

Take your time and think it thru...

Very well said. I completely agree. YOu don't want your tank to be a chore, which might be the case eventually if you go too big. Also, just like you can be house poor, you can also be tank poor if you go too big.

Doesnt matter how many gallons you choose just make sure its 24" tall cause the average person cant reach properly with a 30" tank. Also get atleast 24" wide (30" preffer). Also if possible get glass. Trust me you will thank me later :p

If it was any wider i would have to make it peninsula style to get to anything near the back wall. Shorter may not be bad, i do have little arms.
