2025 Forum Suggestion Box

Hey guys,

Let's bring back a suggestion box. Things you would like to see or don't like to see on the forum. We probably don't need to start a new thread on each suggestion, so this thread will be for whatever is on your mind.

Open discussions. There are certain things that may or may not be implemented, so don't be pissed if it isn't. Sometimes, there is just no resources or funds to implement by the admin. Please keep an open mind and be kind. This is a community and it's as good as we all want to make it.

I'll start.

I would love to see more build threads, but I get it...it's tough to stay on top of it. I would love to see a monthly thread where people post exactly one FTS, one coral shot and one fish shot and some parameters or updates on their tank...Keeping it all to 1 post. Or maybe even bring back the TOTM, those are always so interesting to me because we get to see how everyone's tanks are doing and challenges. SoCal have some of the best access to corals/fish, so I'm sure there are some incredible tanks.

One suggestion is to clean up the Sponsor section... It looks like there may be some that are no longer sponsors (or are out of business)... By removing those who arent, you would actually highlight the true sponsors better.

Great idea. I will check with admin on who are the current sponsors...if any are even still left. Yes, this will definitely help highlight the current sponsors.

Thanks for doing this. I like the idea of a weekly FTS thread. Build threads are also good but I'm currently running a very detailed one on R2R already, so not sure how much more time I want to put to builds, but I could make it more of a highlights thread.

It would be cool to see no FS threads on the home page and keep them on the market place at the bottom. Have all reef related discussions, featured tanks, tanks threads, old or new displayed first.

Admin said we could clean up the sponsor links by the way, but I don't think we have any active sponsorship. Maybe it's time to fire that back up and get some sponsors. Let's clean up first, and see what leads us.

Iv been avoiding making a build thread but I see people are into it I guess it’s time to finally get one going for myself! It’s officially on my to do list!

I think we just continue with this stickied thread from the past. It was a great idea for a FTS Friday thread. We just need more people to post in it, so it can keep it active and continued weekly. I think it is easy to post a FTS weekly. Should not be too much work, and it is very interesting to see what everyone is up to. I've added the 2025 to the title, so it seems more relevant.

I think I'm going to focus my efforts of FTS Fridays and Featured Tanks (TOTM or something like that). I think that will make the forum more active and reefers can show off their tanks a bit. I wish I was a good photographer with a camera. /sigh.

If someone who is a SPS master can push for grow out competition or even become a mod to focus on that, I think that would be great.

Another idea I had is we should do a feature on LFS and their owners. Probably will turn the comments off since we don't want it to turn into a review, but it would be more of a background and getting to know them. Something like that would be cool and unique to this local forum.

I think clean it up, and maybe offer some limited-time discounted sponsorship opportunities to local vendors... and once some influx of cash comes in, can use it to improve the forum, and as that improves and the traffic picks up, can move back to regular price model.

I know there have been suggestions on this but further democratization of admin abilities on the site, giving the ability to delete posts or threads. Criteria could be length of membership or number of posts. I am sure I would not qualify but more hands would make it easier.

We should offer the sponsors some value, and that can only be from getting the site cleaned up and a cool safe place that the local reefers like to hang out. If we can get more local reefers participation and I can start up some of the older stuff that I enjoyed about forums, then sponsors should naturally want to support the forum and fellow reefers.
