Sponsors cleaned up by admin. Thanks Admins!

And thanks for the feedback.

We should offer the sponsors some value, and that can only be from getting the site cleaned up and a cool safe place that the local reefers like to hang out. If we can get more local reefers participation and I can start up some of the older stuff that I enjoyed about forums, then sponsors should naturally want to support the forum and fellow reefers.
Thats awesome! Cant wait to see who supports!

Just doing some more cleanup and organization.

I've also moved all of the stickied previous TOTM threads out from "Member's Reef Tank" into its own new section called "Featured Reef". People can check out some of those past reefs that have been immortalized with their TOTM feature, even if those reefs probably don't exist anymore. This will also help declutter the "Member's Reef Tank" for those posting into that section for their tank builds, and it'll showcase their builds better.

Working on a few other cool things with the admins, but still trying to work out the details before committing. Obviously, this is a local forum, so I definitely want to lean into that and focus on local things.

Bumping for more suggestions or ideas.

I feel like every forum has their own specialty. R2R is kind of the big global reach and have all the sponsors/prizes. Humblefish is the fish disease and pest resource. RC is the archive of past reefers.

SCR can be more local focused, but what do you think will make it more interesting. Socal has such a big reefing community and lots of importers/distributors...It's weird that the local forums are pretty small.

I like the idea of a monthly photo contest. Simple and then we vote on who the winner is. 1 a month. Favorite fish , Coral, Invert. you can make it even tighter so there are more new threads. So instead of just fish Clown fish only, Wrasse Only, Tang only photo contest. Same with coral. Sps, Mushroom, Zoa, Torches just to be able to have something new and fresh each month.

I also like grow out contests but also know they are work.

You mentioned in your earlier post to bring back TOTM... I think it would be nice to do that! Last one is from June 2020 and up on the front page when you come in... so for new visitors could makes it appear like not much happening is happening here since then

maybe change the current feel of the site to more reef topic centered and less classified craigslist by relocating all sponsor/member classified/wtb posts to another category like 'latest marketplace posts' that is placed between 'latest posts' and 'general discussion'

Yeah, it does give the impression to visitors (especially sponsors or potential sponsors) that the forum has not been updated since 2020.

Definitely something on the TO DO list.

It's pretty simple to bring it back once, but it's much harder to keep it going all the time because it is highly dependent on admin/mod effort. So I'm trying to make it organized in a way that it's sustainable while also making it easier for the reef members to engage/participate on their own pace/timeline. I'm working on this now, so hopefully we can get something done by March. That's my target for now.

We are currently discussing this now.

There are a few different perspectives. This is one of the proposals that I had brought up to the admin, and that is not promote FS/FT threads and leave it completely off the front page. Sponsors threads will still be on front page, so it doesn't get lost. Others feel like we should just enforce a ban, warnings, limits when FS pops up from non-active members.

So still tossing those ideas area. Ultimately, it's up to the admin how they want to run this site. I'm just joining to clean up and get it back on track.

I know there have been suggestions on this but further democratization of admin abilities on the site, giving the ability to delete posts or threads. Criteria could be length of membership or number of posts. I am sure I would not qualify but more hands would make it easier.
You can hit up @EyeReef if you want to be a mod. Then you can do all that delete, modifty...basically clean up duty.

I checked, and there is only 2 current moderators (including me) and we just joined to help the spam situation/ban spammers really.

And there are 2 admins (eyereef and djrice69). I think a lot of the past mods are out of the hobby. I've tried to put in a lot of time to clean it up because I genuinely like to see this forum thrive again and help the local reefing community. So there is a lot of work needed to do, and having more mods would help...at least in my opinion...it would be up to the admins but they have been very responsive and receptive to the help.

As you can see the new front page, we cleaned up and sectioned off the FS and Sponsor threads. Everyone gets their cake and happy. If you have other suggestions, we're always open to listen.

Lots of updates by the admin. Thanks @EyeReef and @djrice69 !

(We just got a new puppy for my daughter, so my free time and funds is shrinking more.)
