Upgrading to from a 90g to a 150g and I've decided to go with a t5 fixture. The tank is 5'x2'x2' and I plan on doing three islands for my aquascape. Any thoughts on the dimmable sunpower fixture? Is it worth the extra money over the regular sunpower fixture?

Should I go with a 6 or 8 bulb?

Thanks,

I would go 8 if you want to do corals or clams on the fronts and back, plus if you have frag racks they get enough par to thrive.

90 to a 150? no room to go bigger? jk but it is always the hardest choice. I personally like a deeper tank 30"+ if you can squeeze it. Have you seen the TOTM Mikes tank his is shorter but deeper which I think is nicer, especially for frag retrieval.

Dimmable I think is a good way to have a few peek hours and dial the par back during lower light hours, like on a real reef. I would read Reef in the Skies thread on RC. He uses a dimmable one. I heard through a nosy reefer that ATI is building a led/t5 hybrid. They sure need to get on that.

Thanks for the reply. I already have the tank (used), and I was lucky to have the wife agree to getting this one.

I did forget to mention that this is an sps dominant tank.

I did look into the t5/led hybrids, but the fixtures I liked were 2K and up.

I would go with an 8 bulb if it's going to SPS dominant tank.
Dimmable.... ehhhh, I'm not completely sold on it. I think it's more for the reefer than it is for the reef.
