I currently have a male Flame Wrasse who had a Female that jumped a while ago. I have found a single female I would like to add. Will I have aggression issues? Or will he accept her right away? Thanks

You're best bet is to use a social acclimation container for the new wrasse. Put the female in there for at least 5 days.

Thanks, I plan to, just forgot to say that in my op. I use that every time I add new fish due to my mean *** Ms. Nasty. Good call

Mine don't pair up. They don't fight but I don't see em hanging out. Issue in my case may be "dude looks like a lady."

Ok, I picked her up Wednesday from Coral Gazers and she is doing fine. This morning, I got home from work and thought she had died in the acclimation box, (I have never seen a fish sleep like that, she was on her back and I saw little to no gill movement) so I opened the lid and was getting ready to pull her dead body out, but she was not dead, scared the **** out of me. Anyways, I got a call at that time and forgot to close the box. she promptly ventured out. Ms. Nasty chased her a bit, but not much, just showing who is boss.
Anyways, here is my question. Is their mating process like when clowns hook up? He has "flashed" like crazy and his colors are amazing. He literally has a blue glow to him now, and some blue striping that did not surface before I added her. Only thing is he looks like he is biting her side, or at least head butting her. He has not done any damage and it is only occasional, otherwise they just hang together. Is the biting/butting normal? Thanks, Dave

whats better than a flame wrasse pair?

answer: a flame wrasse trio, or harem of 1 male and 3 females.

I might try that sometime with my pair. My male flame wrasse isnt your average guy :big_boss: :dancing2:

Yeah, a trio is the way to go. I had one once nd they are awesome.

So, anybody? Should I worry about the "pecking" the male is doing? Thanks...

In my experience adding any wrasses or fish that in any way resemble structure or color of your flame male will be pecked and checked by him. She should be fine. I had the flame literally chase my Solon wrasse out of the tank with a lid on. For 6 days straight the Solon was chased relentlessly until he found a rock and camped out for a week while it got cool.

Same with anthias I bought. Fish aren't that smart and lose the taste for fighting after a week. Sometimes a tad longer but IME it's death with in 72 hours of pecking and chasing or survival of the new addition.

In the future if you add anything else as long as it isn't red or orange he's pretty chill.

Dave, how is the female doing?
Stressed, it ate yesterday, but has been hiding most of the time, not sure if you read this whole thread, but she escaped the box already. Keeping my fingers crossed. Can't find her this morning, she moved from where she was sleeping last night. Male keeps pecking at her, then next minute they act like they are best friends, weird...

When he flashes, it is amazing there are colors on him I have never seen, shades of blue and literally a blue glow. Pretty awesome. Funny thing, he never even noticed her in the box at all. Ms. Nasty did her ritualistic initial chasing once she ws out, but that has subsided. Hoping not to have to look for # 9...

The hazing is pretty normal and the color change is awesome to watch. I am hoping in the future I am lucky enough to get a male and female feminus to watch this behavior. I think as long as she doesn't get to stressed and stops eating she will be fine. She was a good eater and an active fish while I had her. I am finding that if I put the tougher wrasses with other fish right away they acclimate better. Keep in mind other fish are not MS. Nasty. No fish wants that kind of hazing. LOL

She's dead. Pulled it out this morning. Ms. Nasty she never bothered her at all. Only fish I saw do any hazing was the male flame. Next one I will put the male in isolation and let the newb loose..
