Currently running a 90 gal
And two 60 gals

Just bought 187 gal
5'x30"x24" tall
Everything from 90 gal goes in 187
Plus cherry pics from the 60 gals

So I wanna add all rock and sand from 90 gal but other tanks have ALOT alagae.
So question is if I use old 90 gals water
And make 97 would the tank cycle?
Also putting in more new sand.

Really can't afford to run all these while upgrade cycles

Any help would b appreciated.

How old is your old sand? It is hard to say if you are going to have a mini cycle from die-off or not. If you use the established live rock and your sand is less than a year old you should be ok! I just did a tank move with a 125 and used about 60 percent old water and cleaned my year old sand/reused. I hope this helps!

See...what happen to the 150g. For a minute , thought you got banned or something. Well if your out of depression, shht. Pull me out...
I would move everything over except for the sand. Either live sand or dry sand then seed it with a coupl scoop of the top layer of your mature sand. I would also use half of your tank water with the rest new. To give you a peace of mind dump in a bottle of Dr. Tim's "one and only". I stopped by coral obsession last week and they stocked them now. Ron will even match competitor price, that just who he is at gain our business.

I wouldn't transfer the sand just yet. Transfer your rock and water and make the new water to fill the rest.

That sand is 5-6 years old and is probably filled with crap. wash the sand and you can add it in with new sand a few weeks after you set up the 187. You don't need to do it all at once

If you want to reuse the sand, then make sure you thoroughly rinse it before reusing it.

You WILL have a mini cycle. My tank was only up for 4 months before we moved a couple weeks ago. I kept all LR corals and fish in various tanks and cans full of water. LR was out of the water maybe 1 hr-tops. Ammonia was tested at 0. My potters wrasse died so I checked ammonia and it was 1.

IME, in addition to Dr Tims, also keep some Amquel nearby. Collectively the expectation various people have told me is when moving and/or upgrading, expect some deaths but hope they don't happen

Hey John! Nice to see you back on the boards.

I'd follow the advice above...move everything but the sand, at first. Use bacteria in a bottle to seed the tank and avoid an ammonia spike. Keep some amquel handy just in case. And some extra bacteria. Move over livestock from one tank at a time so that you don't overload your biofilter too quickly. And I'd add bacteria each time you add livestock until the tank has had the time to develop and maintain it's own biofilter levels.

Either use new sand or very thoroughly rinsed old sand.

You can use all but the last 1 of water, as that 1 inch has most of the unwanted crap in it.
