Any other options? Need to cut a few acans. Has anyone used a regular fine blade hand saw? Or will it be a guarantee death? I've cut a single head off before with a coral clipper . but it didn't get a good cut at all. Heads survived but funky looking.

Got some ones? I'll cut it for you if you let me keep one :). I don't think you can frag acans without a saw.

I will keep you in mind since you're so close. I just wonder if there was a simpler way since I only need to make 2 cuts. Didn't want to bother anyone . cleaning is probably a b!tch to make just a few cuts.

If you don't mind bringing it to my house u can use my bandsaw.
You're close. I'll text you if I need. My friend (a chcik) just started a tank so I split some stuff with her. She wants to get it this weekend so I might no have time to go before then.

A dremel? Just make sure to keep it wet as I've heard those create a lot of heat.
I know heat is an issue. I do plan on wet cutting. What type of blade? Most blades I've seen are pretty thick. I was thinking a small fine hand saw may go through it with a couple cuts.

Dremel won't work well. Gets too hot. Have tried fragging some favias before. And all the cut edges would melt away

Same for me on the dremel, you can get it done, but it's not easy. Right tool for the job I always say.

What did you want to frag it for? I'd hold off until I could frag the animal with proper tools.
Splitting half with my friend.

So even with a fine saw it was a lot harder then I thought. The base is rock hard. Thought it was more soft . I just sawed a line on the top to help guide the crack. And used a wire cutter to snap it. Wasn't the best but it still snapped around the cut but tore the heads since it didn't just break at the edges. I think they'll heal fine. I'll keep everyone posted. If Anything I'll give her the dead half. Lol

We've been using Dremels for years with no issues.

Here's a few suggestions:
Use a Dremel with a variable speed, you'll use the slowest setting possible.
We use a battery powered Milwaukee Dremel and keep the coral in water while cutting (don't do this with an AC Dremel!). Obviously don't submerge the Dremel.
Cut the coral from the back skeleton side, this is important to limit the amount of soft tissue damage. If you start on the front of the coral the tissue is exposed to heat and damage for longer. \

This is the blade we use. Home Depot has them but you'll need to but the arbor and blade separately.
