My wife just sent me these disturbing pictures of my Sohal tang going after the tusk. My wife said she got home and the the tusk was trying to get away from the tang. He looks weak and exhausted.

I don't know what happen but I had these two fish in the same tank for a long time. The sohal never showed any aggression against the tusk only to the sailfin tang.

Bad fish!!!

another tang terror

uh-humm,

why didnt this go under my "Tang Terror" post ?!?!

http://www.socalireefs.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19388

Tangs can be nice for years, then go osama on datass...

Harlequin Wrasses are mean looking, but they are actually docile fish that just happen to be carnivours.I have the same fish, but will not mix them because the wrasse has no chance.

What about this same size matchup... sohal vs. clown trigger...LOL

Well I got home just half an hour ago and the tusk was in the back of the tank lifeless. :cray::cray:

Going back to what went wrong with the fish. I recently upgraded to a larger tank. First set fish that went in are the wrasse including the tusk. then the purple tang and the mimic tang followed. No aggression at all and all are doing fine. Then yesterday I decided to add the last 3 fish that was in my 110 gallon, Sohal, Sailfin and the Achilles. this where I messed up big time the tusk was in the rocks and was not out when I added the last 3 fish. :frusty: he was probably done for the evening and didn't come out until the following day. When he did the Sohal when after him, his fins are ripped to shread, looks like hes been chased around all day long.

Its my fault for over looking this. and this is exactly what I was trying to avoid....

Dang sucks I also lost my tusk but in my case it was because my overflow didn't have a lid and it was in there for at minimum 30-40 hours. Rip Tiger.

So is it better to add fish when they are out and about? I always add my fish at night in hopes that the next day when the lights turn out my fish will see a new guy and be like "Hey I didnt see you yesterday but you know what you could have been here all this time (they move on to better things to do)." I figuered if I add during the day they will see a new fish introduced and go all turf wars. Ateleast at night the new fish has a chance to move about and find a hiding spot. Sorry about your fish though and that Sohal looks like a Billy Badass.

I always add mine when lights are out, but I also skip a photoperiod before turn tham back on so the new fish is in for about 48 hours before lights come on...

It makes sense though. I mean if its pitch black and you introduce a new fish everyone is too busy hiding from predators to even bother or care. When the lights come on its like hey theres another fish along with all the other fish everyone else sees day in and day out. In theory I dont see why it shouldnt be effective. Then again Im not a marine biologist and I have no case study to backup the theory lol.

Arnel --- that really sucks. I'm sorry to hear it. Perhaps a trip to AquaSD in the next month or two will cheer you up?

i feel your pain...

so your favorite ex-fish, the one in your avatar...is KIA?

<---- mine too :bawling: (killed by a powder blue tang I had for 3 years)

try again? im sure u already know, but harlequin tusk II would have to be much bigger than the sohal, and sohal-bin-laden would need to be moved out for a while...

why not try my clown trigger challenge? im doing it as we speak...

I try to introduce a new fish as well during lights out to reduce stress whenever possible.

I've never tried the 48 hour black out though...

One beautiful fish kills another. Sorry for your loss.

FWIW- Vivid aquriums had 2 small aussie tuskfish in their 700g display reef... didnt touch corals/clams, but i think they took them out b/c they were loosing 2many snails...
