It's been two weeks since I put the JNS biopellet reactor online. So far so good....I think the reactor tumbles a little too rigorously but well see. I started off with about 1/3 of the dosage and it seems to be working. I have not tested the water for NO3 or PO4 but am basing it on observation. I never went through the cloudy phase or the white milky substance that some have gone through when starting pellets. The one thing that I have noticed is that there is a reduction in cyano in the tank and the front only needs to be cleaned every 5-6 days. Prior to this, I was having to clean it off every 2-3 days. It looks promising so far but I know I am far from the end game. I have noticed the skimmer pulling more gunk as the output from the reactor is aimed towards the skimmers input.

Mike, I'm using Dr. Tims, they seem on the small side when it comes to biopellets. As for the video, well see if I can get one up. I know their are some larger pellets from other manufacters but want to make sure I'm purchasing quality pellets. I'm thinking that larger pellets won't be tossed around so violently. Any suggestions?

ZOEE--what does it do to the PH? Should I be watching out for a fall or rise?

I love the pearls from dr tim. Working great in my tank
After some tweaking, the dr Tim's are working great. I had a very small amount in my cadlights reactor, and I think it was tumbling too hard. I was getting cyano and hair algae real bad. I added double the amount i had, and did two big water changes and now my tank is looking awesome! SPS couldn't be happier.

All the horror stories u hear about biopellets are from people that ran them with out doing some research first.

By the way...
Thanks Chris for helping me out!

That's what I been saying from the get go. People jump into them thinking they Are a fix all not knowing anything about them. Then when the sh1t hits the fan they blame the pellets instead of just manning up and admit they didn't know what they were doing.

Too bad you don't have equipment I would want when you part out.

You have a $hit-Athon in your tank of course it's gonna be able to feed.

oh man, fighting words!

on topic, ive had bio pellets for the better part of a year, just tested p04, its between .00 and .01 (hanna) 0 nitrate (salifer) my ph stays between 8.0-8.3. IMO its better they tumble like crazy opposed to getting stuck, once they clump its pretty nasty and hard to get going again.

I feed my tank 2-3 times a week and my fish twice daily

Kyle are you running GFO? From the literature I've come across most are reporting that PO4 reduction is minimal and adding GFO is somewhat necessary. Although I have a GFO reactor on standby, if possible I would not like to use it as its pricey for the media and just a overall hassle to change and monitor the reactor.

I was using phosguard for a while but only had to change out the media every 3 months or when it turned brown... but I took it off line about 2 weeks ago and haven't noticed anything detrimental ... I run carbon and tlf npx pellets.

From my understanding po4 reduction is limited by nitrate...once there both low it seems like it maintajns ok... also have a fuge tho but chatoe growth is minimal.

ph will drop..I dose kalk at night to maintain ph (as well as alk and calcium)...the reason i use kalk instead of a buffer is because of its ability to maintain levels, and not increase them

Interesting I never noticed a drop in pH at all. My alk stays 8.3-8.4 the only swing is if the house is open or not

Kyle same here, my chaeto is all but dead or dying and I only have a piece the size of a golf ball in the fuge. The stuff just does not want to grow.

Lorenzo, since my fuge is running opposite my lighting, I have not noticed a drop in Ph. Thanks for the warning....I may be taking the fuge offline as it is not growing macro well. I think I have a simple doser lying around so maybe I'll try the Kalk route if I see a drop in the Ph value.
