Made some equipment changes today. Added a black background. Added my AC70 fuge with the InTank media basket. I'll be running floss, chemipure elite, and chaeto. The light on the fuge will be a nanoglo that I will run 24/7. Here are some pics of the rig. Tank is cloudy from the gunk in the chaeto.

Closeup...you can see I painted the unit black, but not the input tube, which is covered in old corraline.

I'm not familar with the ac70 retrofit- Isnt that too much flow to grow cheato?

Any shots on the retrofit? Very interesting!

Here is a link to the InTank sight, where you can see the media basket. It is a plug and play solution...just drop the unit in, and the AC70 is a fuge/media holder. I modded my impeller to decrease the flow (I removed 3 of the 6 blades).

I actually used this same setup on my 40g and it grew chaeto like crazy.

Went through a bunch of crap with this little tank. I got zoa pox, lost a bunch of frags, the die off f'ed up my parameters, so almost the entire tank crashed. It's really tough to control a crash in a tank this small.

Everything is pretty much back now. I made some equipment changes since my last post. I'm still using the AC70, but I am not running the fuge. I am just running floss-chemipure elite-purigen. A also picked up a new light, it is the finnex ray2 LED fixture. I really like the light output and the way the tank looks under this fixture.

Here is how the tank is looking now:

Can you take a couple pictures of your overflow and how the sump and return is all plumbed? I have always wanted a high end zoa garden. Maybe this will be my new project! 10g though. Looks awesome

Thanks for the compliments! No overflow Mike...It looks like I have one, but it is just a skimmer box that I use on my Aquaclear 70 hang on filter (instead of the stock intake tube). The big downside is that I have to run my heater in the display, but overall..I like the simplicity of the setup.

Thanks for the heads up Bob! What type of filtration is it? I have been out of the game so long Im not picturing it... at least if I get one started I know where to go to get some frags....lol

Here is the aquaclear (factory pic). I painted mine black.

I am also running a custom media basket inside (much better suited for SW). Basket is sold by InTank.

Here is the surface skimmer, from badreef systems:

You ready my mind. I like the bowfront as I happened to read your thread on nano reef. Can you point me in the direction of the rimless bowfront? Do you know if they make a slightly larger volume such as 10 or 12g

My wife said I can get a large redsea max S once our hardwood floors are done....that wont be for a while and I have always wanted a zoa garden!

Thanks for all the tips. You do need a macro lens. Or for your knowledge maybe you just need some Reef Master originals of your own....where you located?

I'm out in Covina, so not too far from Riverside.

I got my tank from my LFS. It is made by Mr. Aqua. They also make 13.3g bowfront. You can pick them up from marinedepot, or CK Fishworld in Covina caries their tanks.

Nice Zoa BTW!!!

Know right where it is. I grew up in Monrovia and used to go to puddingstone to the boat drag races all the time. Ya man we should get together...that is a great size. Do you by chance know how much the larger bowfront is?

Thanks for the comment on the photo. I have tons of them....when I broke down my larger 100g system I sold my zoa colonies as I was moving. I had tons of high end zoas even 24ks all the hornets etc...
What LED r u running? Maybe sometime if you are available I would like to swing by and take a look at your setup? Maybe ill bring my camera....lol

Here are a few more...

I think Marine depot has it for like $60 plus shipping. I don't know how much it is at fishworld, but I bet it is about a wash when you factor the shipping in.

LMK if you swing by Covina and you can check out my little setup. Here is a link to the light I am using...perfect for a shallow 18" tank.
