Yeah I'm slumming it with the 5000. Chad has the 8000 running on his tanks at his shop and he loves it. My 5000 is finicky but once you dial it in it does a good job. My only complaint is that I don't like how the water level can only be 6 - 6.5 inches. Such a large skimmer has to sit in a puddle of water.
Yeah dude I hear you on that. Do you have the silencer for the outlet on the skimmer? That's one thing I hated was the water coming out made a bunch of noise

Ya. I have the xp3000 and it's the same way. But I really like mine. If my vertex were to fall over and break, I would get a xp5000 for my new tank. Once u dial it in and find the sweet spot, u will never have to adjust it. Haven't adjusted my skimmer in months.

It that what the extra coupling is for. I had it on before but only for a day of so. I ended up lowering it to 7 inches which made it quiet but tons of micro bubbles and it would only skim wet. I raised it back up and it's night and day. Hopefully the silencer will help.

Skimming this thread and curious about the silencer .. I have the xp2000 and the outlet is crazy loud! It sits just above water line in sump and I pointed it toward the cone to cut cut some noise.. But barely! What can I use to silence it?

Yeah, I should be fine now that it's back are the right depth. with it being lower than the recommended level I had to play with it more I usually don't touch it just clean the cup. I just can't believe what a difference a 1/2 inch in water depth makes with that thing.

Look closely u can see an adapter and a 90* PVC on the end of mine. It's totally silent.

Ok thank u! Gonna try it, gonna find out what size elbow to get.. Is there a certain piece I need to attach it or just a tight fit elbow? Is it below the water line ? I can't tell in my phone :)

Basically it's just a 3-4 inch extension pipe to goes on the output. Mine came with one. It's tapered from about 2 1/2 inches to 1 1/2. So try to find a reducer in the plumbing section at Lowes or Home Depot. I'll take a pic of mine tonight.

Thank you for idea!! So much more relaxing to chill next to the tank!
