Probably going to redo my tank and add new live sand, so i was wondering what are your thoughts on the oolite grade. Im guessing it will get blown around but how badly?

I had it in my 55 gal long and it took good 6+ months before it started to settle down. I never liked it because it was always all over my rocks. On top of that, my clowns would always blow it around and create a nice sandstorm in the tank. In my opinion, not good.

+++ Agreed here. All my seahorses were covered with sand. Still are. I have to blow them ... Wait I have to brush them or use a turkey baster to clean them.

Tho, in my other tank, I used oolite but put a bit coarser sand on top of it. That seemed to help.

Don't even consider it, will be the biggest mistake you'll make by putting that sand in your tank. I've got numerous friends who say it's terrible

Oolite bad? Um no. It's the best sand for DSBs. Let's not make such general blanket statements, we're doing a disservice by providing misinformation to people. It's a great sand for softy and LPS tanks with low flow. For tanks with higher flow, it may not be recommended because yes, it will be blown around.
I know someone that runs a four to five inch DSB with sugar fine oolitic sand, tropic marin bio-actif salt water only in his tank of mixed LPS, softies, and mostly LPS with great success it's one of the nicest tank I've ever seen. Here's a link showing a pic of said tank:

Think ima go with special grade... thinking about adding 80lbs my tank footprint is 36x18. Should i go 80 dry to save a couple of bucks or 40 dry and 40 live? Does it even make difference, i feel like live sand isnt that much live anyways.

My cube is 24 by 24 and one 40 pound bag of special grade gave me exactly two inches front to back. I bought two bags and didn't even use the other. Stuff is spendy though. Over $70 for a 40 pound bag dry. If you head out this way I'll make you a deal on it.

Dry it is then. Do you think it will be a good idea to have it in a holding tank with some tank water from a w/c for a couple of weeks before i use it? Going to buy the sand next week but wont be redoing my tank for about a month

Personally all I would do would be to rinse it really well with RODI.
