Seems like Im most likely going to go with clearview lids as
I am just going to tell you my experience so you can know.

I ordered from Clearview on their website in December. Their website crashed 3 times while I was placing the order. The website charged me wrong, and did not save my customization correctly. I wrote to Clearview and let them know, they said they looked over the order and refunded be everything I was over charged.

Turnaround time was supposed to be 6 weeks.

At 8 weeks they let me know they had a broken machine and were running behind.

When I finally received my lid, it did not fit my tank, and it did not have the feed doors I had ordered. The lid was about 1/8th of an inch to wide side to side, so instead of closing flush it formed a bit of a tent shape.

I let Clearview know and sent them pictures.

They told me I was wrong, that the lid did fit; and gave me some line about how it sat 1/8" of an inch proud on all sides. They told me they could not see my picture. I resent it, the second time they thought it was to blue. So if you do have a complaint with them, make sure to have a professional photographer color grade your photos.

I told them about the feed door, and instead of trying to fix what they screwed up now on cost, time, production, and customization; they said their plans did not show the feed door. When I sent them a copy of my receipt with the feed door paid for, they told me that charge was not for the door, just cost the same as the door, and then they refunded me a portion of it. Clearview explained to me how I had been charged wrong, and when they looked over my invoice the first time after charging me wrong, that they just didn't give me all of the refund I was owed.

I ended up taking my brand new lid that did not fit my tank out to my router table and cutting 1/16th of of each sides of the center piece so the lid would close. Never cut out the extra feed lid.

So they were late, the product did not fit, they over charged, and they were pretty rude about it.

Besides that my experience with the lid is that it is not well thought out. For example the tabs that hold the lid onto the tank are only about 1/8 of an inch. They are just to small to be functional. If they would have made the tabs just a tiny bit bigger it would really improve their performance. Also the feed door, which has the same tab really should be round so it doesn't fall through the feed door hole. It is such a basic thing it really surprises me they never took the time.

If you have a router you can make your own lid with this design for probably a hundred bucks, and if you don't have a router, well IME the lid they send you won't close anyways.

Is your tank rimless? I think these custom lids work really well with rimless. I'm not too sure if they work well with euro brace, especially like my CDA has a double euro-brace...which I haven't seen with a custom lid.

Looking at the cost of these lids at the end of the day, just realized how ridiculously priced they are.

With the current sale my lid from clearview would be $439 after shipping and top lids for $508

Like half a grand for a lid is insane.

at the moment Im thinking of just getting 2 red sea diy lids to make to a 2 piece lid.

Pricey but sweet looking though. I wished the redsea would make the borders clear instead of black because if I made a 2 piece, that center bar will block my lights.

They're definitely a luxury purchase given their cost, but also a material upgrade on stock or DIY lids in terms of both functionality and appearance. They're a good splurge, but if you're on a budget, dollars are better allocated elsewhere.

High end lids are probably one of the last things I buy unless I have a lot of fish jumpers. I would rock a DIY version until my tank looks awesome inside and my tank very stable and full. Right now, I’m splurging on equipment that will make my tank stable. When I’m not spending my money on stocking the tank anymore, then I would probably splurge on a custom lid as a reward to myself. Definitely a luxury piece.

I don’t have any experience with clear view lids but I just received my top lids on Friday. It took 2 months but I really appreciated that they double checked with me to make sure my measurements were all correct before sending it out to get processed. It wasn’t cheap but the quality is amazing and the fit is perfect!

Im probably going to go with clearview, its about $330 for the standard lid without the open hole I guess.
Toplids is $510 with shipping, if i get the same design as toplids from clearview, my total would be $450

I wish you the best of luck. Hopefully your experience is much different than mine.

Looking at this thread and the current cost of acrylic I am really thinking I should just buy a CNC machine and start making my own. Huge profit on these.

Every so often you see a thread about someone saying “that’s too much $$$ I’ll make one myself”. Personally, in my tank, if a fish jumps that’s just Darwin at work but for people to build their own, generally it just proves what a really nice job Clearview does. There is also the concern of light blockage.

But there are some really cool fish that are known jumpers, and some can be quite pricey to lose. Fish could be worth more than the lid cost. So it's just a numbers game.
