So I'm mixing salt to do a water change, (55g) and I noticed after adding alk, cal, and mag to match my DT the water gets really cloudy. It's happened both times I've done water changes, I'm using the DIY solutions. Any reason why this occurs? The first time my DT was cloudy for about a day, I didn't have any adverse effects at all. Am I adding too much? I went based on the reef calculator. BTW I'm using IORC. Thanks everyone.

Are you adding them at the same time? If so that cloudiness is precipitation. Even if not at the same time the cloudiness is precipitation. You need to space out your dosing further. I'd say at least an hour between elements but I'd recommend more.

I did add them all within a couple minutes of each other, thanks for the help. 👍

Maybe I'm off way base here with my questions/understanding of the situation.

1. Are you mixing salt and the other elements together in one 55g drum or container?

2. After mixing the saltwater batch and allowing it to mix overnight...you perform your water change and notice that the water becomes cloudy as you are adding the other elements to your display?

1: SUGGESTION - In this situation, I would suggest mixing your water completely separate from the elements you plan to dose....and if the water is becoming cloudy, it may be due to over dosing....test your water and base your next doses off your findings.

2: SUGGESTION - If this is happening, retest your water and dose according to the results.

(Ultimately - I hope my information was useful).
