Hi! I always buy copepods to seed my tank but they never seem to take and I never see them ever again Is there anything I'm doing wrong? I just set up a 120 gallon tank and I want to seed the tank so they grow copepods but I don't want to waste my money if they keep dying... I put them in the display tank among the live rock and I've also put them in the refugium but I never see multiply... Any help would be appreciated!

What kind of pods are you buying? The ones that come in the bottle don't really seed well. Try the big amphipod you can get them from online spurces

more importantly, what kind of livestock do you have in your tank? if you've got a mandarin goby or something, it'll decimate the pod population.

I've used the tisbe pods from aqua culture nursery and tigger pods... Neither stayed very long. All i had at the time were clowns, scooter blenny, and a flame angel... Also tried seeding my frag tank with no fish and it didnt take either! I would like a mandarin goby and heard they wont eat amphipods... Also i had amphipods before and they were attacking my zoas

Yeah, I've caught my clowns eating about half of the pods I try to stock up on. As soon as they hit the water, they get om nom'd. I use a make shift baby HOB fuge on my sump to culture my pods now. They slowly just get sucked up by the return pump into the DT and live. No idea how mych return pump doesnt chop them up lol

I think that you probably still have a population in your tank. I know I have seeded my tank and try as hard as I may, I can never seem to find any on my rock work except on rare occasion. Yet whenever I change out a filter sock, there they are, several copeopods alive and well in my sock. They have to be coming from somewhere. If you can when your lights are low, try moving a rock or two and I'd bet that you'll see a few scurry for cover.....

Tisbes are really small and hard to see with the naked eye so they might be there.

Best to add any pods at night when your fish are sleeping.

Also grab some chaeto from someone you'll get some in there as well.
