I think you have no idea what you are talking about...again!
Yeah me too. Lets see... what desperate thief that knew about keeping corals and livestock wouldn't break into a shop knowing they could get thousands for some of these little animals. Ya that would never happen... right....

could be insurance froud also.
keep the corals and get paid from insurance.... double the profit. lol

I'm not sure a store owner with all that video equipment installed could convince his friend or brother to break into the store to commit fraud.

There are so many venues to move this stuff now it would be easy. Nearly impossible to do a positive ID on the livestock so it will have to be the tape or fingerprints that convicts them.

Guaranteed if it were insurance froud(sp?), their faces would not have been seen, and no prints left...

But Chad did make a good point to me today, who has infrared cameras, but no alarm system?

Not sure why they would make that decision but it may have something to do with the ongoing costs of having an alarm. I pay a monthly fee for monitoring whereas the video system is a one time cost.

Was there any mention that the store even had insurance on the inventory?

I'm still baffled that there isn't an ALARM system considering how much equipment and livestock. If it took two thieves a few buckets to walk out with $20,000 worth of stuff. I wonder how much in value there is left of the remaining inventory, $50K, $75K, $100K?. Is it not worth the $99 per month subscription? Between the discount in store insurance and piece of mind, it might have been worth it especially for what seems like a well-run SUCCESSFUL LFS to afford.

I'm assuming they're successful 'cause of all the high-end inventory of corals they stock.

Not sure why they would make that decision but it may have something to do with the ongoing costs of having an alarm. I pay a monthly fee for monitoring whereas the video system is a one time cost.

Infered cams are cheap, they come standard even on the cheaper systems. A lfs near me was broken in three times in one year and lost about $6,000 in rare fish.

+1. I think it was just some idiots trying to score equipment and corals. If it was an inside job they would have worn masks since the owner obliviously knows he has cameras.

If indeed they are hobbyists I can almost guarantee they are not after the money, or its not their first priority anyway.
This is likely the only means they can afford to gloat and boast about their latest high-$$$ acquisition to their friends and fellow hobbyists.
I've seen the worst in humanity these past four years, mostly in the quest to be the latest and greatest hot dog on the block or simply to fit in with the clique.
Its like living Junior High all over again.
