Well, it's official! I paid Aaron for the tank today at RAP. It's all mine!! Will be picking it up next weekend.

I went to RAP with my eyes closed because I didn't have money to spend after the new tank so it was a little difficult seeing all the eye candy. Instead, I got some research done on my new tank and talked to an ATI guy about the ATI T5/LED hybrid. After that, I hit up John at Advanced Acrylics and he designed a sump for me on paper with everything I wanted. It couldn't have been easier! He basically took care of all the technicalities for me. Then I hit the Apex guys and they showed me the new software...pretty cool stuff. Lastly, I checked out the rockscape at EcoRocks I think it was called, to get some ideas on possibilities.

It was sad I didn't buy any coral, but it was still a productive day.

Well, I picked up the tank last weekend from Aaron. He and his dad were very helpful in helping us load the tank up. It was almost like an art form. I never knew you had to take so many precautions to move a tank.

I didn't measure my door frame correctly and the stand was 1" short of fitting. Yeah, I could have removed the frame, but the tank looked a lot better in the den. I'll have more room to work with it and it matches all the furniture. Days before, John did my sump and he got it done in less than a week. Pictures soon!

Sweet dude.

Explain how the sump flows. And any reason behind it. Always looking to improve future sump designs.

This was John's idea and it was on display at one of the RAP sumps he had. Basically, the water flows from left drain, to skimmer chamber, to pump, and at the other end (right side) there's a drain emptying into the refugium at reduced flow. So there's flow on both ends of the sump. Critiques on this are welcome as this was my first sump and I took his recommendation.

Well, this build is going slower than I wanted, but I'm waiting for Black Friday to get the bulk of it. Yesterday, I got my calcium reactor from Chad. The Korallin I was looking at. He was even kind enough to drill me a hole for a probe holder. Now I need to shop for a regulator and I'm good to go.

As far as lighting is concerned, I think I'm going the T5/LED hybrid with the ATI. I'm not in the mood to DIY it this time. I really liked the color Chad's frag tank put out with T5's and his acans looked great. I never could let go the actinic effect of LEDs so I think this will be a good combo. So with that said, I'm gonna have to drill some holes in my canopy for ventilation since it's not recommended to run an ATI inside a closed canopy.

So, one more week till I order everything....

Nice tank and stand. You have any pic of the inside the stand?? Wondering if I should have leemar build a stand for my new tank. Also you have a front center brace on the stand?
Thanks

I'll take more pics of the stand this weekend. It doesn't have a front center brace, it's just open. Honestly, it's a nice looking stand, but it's not furniture grade. The wood on the panels is super think and I could easily make a hole in it with a slight tap. It's nice, but it's not great.

Wow! Ok. Forgot to update!

So during the Black Friday craze, I ordered most of my stuff. The only thing missing is the Jeboa return pump and some misc. things. Basically, I got all my bulkheads, bulbs, reactors, etc. So now I'm in the stages of planning the plumbing. I'm working on a sketch and I'll throw it up once I'm done.

Overview of Setup
