I recently just purchased a beast of 3/4" thick 60x32x24 acrylic tank this last weekend as an upgrade for my current glass tank. As some of you may have seen the for sale thread for this tank on a different section on this forum... As It turned out, I didn't inspect the tank carefully enough nor was I told about the damaged seams and that the tank doesn't hold water. I bought it thinking that it's brand new and acrylic it'll be fine (also didn't help that the seller wrapped the corners in shrink wrap so I the damaged seam wasn't immediately visible, while their for sale photos didn't have the shrink wrap.) When I got home I took the shrink wrap off and found that one of the seams was not even thoroughly bonded between two panels of acrylic all the way down to the bottom making this tank guaranteed to leak or have a catastrophic blowout in the future. I was duked a good amount of cash thinking all I got out of it was some nice bulkheads.

So today I just took the tank down to Advanced Acrylics to have professional look at the tank and to do the repairs necessary to make this tank hold water like it's supposed to. Good news is that it's fixable! They will be adding a brace to outside and inside of the corner seam, adding support to the external overflow and overflow teeth as well as adding a lid to the overflow box all for a great price; making the tank well worth the price I got the leaky tank for plus the repair cost!

So here's some before pictures of the tank showing the damaged seam and corners... I"ll be updating this post with some after repair photos once I get this awesome tank back and ready to fill!!!

Yes can we get a link to see the thread? It is a small community and it sucks when something like this happens.

You should talk back to the seller to get atleast compensation for repair. Unless you were able to bargain that below $800 that was offered.

That sucks! That one bad panel Is what the entire 400 gallon tank for sale on reef central in Oxnard looks like plus it has screws! The frost look where the acrylic forms the bond note the screws are shown in the pics either. Good thing that tank want wrapped in shrink wrap. Glad it worked out for you.

You did get screwed. And sell can't say that it was you and poor transport. Look at his post in the first picture you can see the split of the seem. Scandalous. Probably his tank and he knowingly punked you. He said selling for a friend so he had an excuse I'm assuming.

I must redeem my name on this forum.
1. I posted the tank for a friend. I was not the owner of the tank the pictures was as of the tank when I was it.
2. When I met reefer6 in person I introduced him to the owner of the tank.
3. I was not told that it was any damage to the tank by the owner nor by reefer6. I'm just now geting wind of it from this post.
4. I am a honest person and yes this is small community and I don't want a bad name for something I had not control over nor would I have someone to drive 2 hours without givin them the full details.
5. When u buy a used car u check it out b4 u buy it right.
I am truly sorry for that this turned out to be a bad deal and I will not take the blame for something that I honestly did not do. The dealing was with the owner and reefer6. I just introduced

Most forums have rules against selling items for other people, I guess this one doesn't. But when you do sell something for someone else you are putting your name at risk if the deal goes bad. This is kind of a lose/lose situation for everyone. I am glad the buyer is able to get the tank fixed but this is still a bummer to hear about.

In my opinion as a good reef community member you would have inspected the friends tank before posting it yourself instead of just taking photos and posting it. Also you can see issues with the seam in the first photo of your thread which means they would have been more noticeable to you in person before the owner of the tank wrapped it. You are just as responsible as the seller is and you took on that responsibility being a middle man!

The only way to redeem your name is admit your lack of attention to details and go to bat for the buyer and try to get his costs covered. But you have already failed at that! IMO

This is exactly the reason why you aren't supposed to sell for others.

Problem is the mods here don't get paid and there is just simply too much to monitor.

This clearly shows the defect that I did not hide.
This quote below says "New Never Set Up" and does not disclose any issues with the tank.

I'm helping a fellow reefer sale his tank. He had this built for a location in his home upstairs but decide not set it up because of the weight.

The tank is new never set up. made out of 3/4" or 1" Acrylic not sure.

If you don't want to get flamed for selling a bad tank then don't post for others and don't put your name on the line. The issue is you did. What if this guy did not see this set the tank up and flooded his house. How would you feel then. I am sorry but your arrogance is pissing me off as I would be extremely pissed if this happened to me. Like everyone says this is a small community don't ever expect me to ever buy anything from you after seeing this post.
