I have solar and lease, couldn't be more happier...
It cost me O out of pocket....
They say if your elect. bill is $150 / month or more, then solar is a good option.( you will need good credit to lease )
I went with Real Goods Solar, if you are interested give them a call, I reccomend them. Edison rates are always going up, with solar you are locked in.
Again if you bill is over $150 / then solar will reduce your energy cost. They look at your edison bill and see what you use for the entire year, then build you a system that will produce that amount of energy.
In my case I had them build a bigger system, then What i was using. And I am paying the same as before and having more energy to use. Hope this makes sense. :)
Hey Keith... thanks for the info. Aren't these leased systems a ball and chain to the house if you tried to sell? I'd imagine you're locked into a contract right?

Contract is for 20 years....I will be paying them instead sce, and having more elect. to use and having no more rate increases. I also have a buy out clause in 7 years, which I will probably do.

As far as a ball and chain (lol ) I see IT at as selling point ! Buyer will not have a sce payment. And no more rate increases.

Very informative. Appreciate the info.

So outside of the 20 year contract (which is pretty extreme), no other downsides? Im assuming the batteries storing the solar energy are good size too? Im assuming the batteries would need to be housed indoors, whether it be a shed or a garage...

No batteris used, that is for a back up only. The energy that I dont use goes back to the grid, and SCE pays me ...

think about it: 20 years is not extreme.... You will always have a SCE payment.

They finally got SCE to turn you on? I wonder how much roof space I would need for a 50 kWh system. lol

Battery back up is not worth the investment. They only last about 10 years, and have to replace them. And its only good for if the power goes out... Which to me isn't worth it. I have a generator for my tank....

yup , finally ! I've been up and running for about a month now.

I have 24 panels. 16 on south facing, and 8 east facing.

They will give you a free estimate, they will bring up your home on computer, look at you roof and design your system.

Keith... so is the contract you have with your solar company transferable during a sale? If so then cool... but let's say 10 years down the road you tried to sell and let's say you didn't buy it out after 7 years. The problem "I can see" is that the technology might be outdated at that point and not as efficient as what would be available at the time. The buyer would have to agree to take over payments on an outdated system for 10 years. Maybe I'm getting to critical? The reason I bring up "my concerns" is that I considered buying a system like this but I had an appraiser come over to look at my place and he said that the bank will not loan money or see much value in these roof solar units. Example: his client paid $50k for a solar unit. The appraiser only gave him $8k added value for it. He said the banks won't approve any more because they have to see an apples to apples appraisal that "SOLD" with a unit on the roof and their really aren't any. Maybe this will change down the road as more people get on board with solar? Anyways, it all makes me nervous. I know if someone pays in cash that's another story...it's piece of mind and a savings but again, you'll never get anywhere close to what you paid for it.

Thoughts?

I was using over 1800 kw a month. Summer worse because of central AC

I went all LED and lower wattage pumps. Saved about 300 kw a month.

Put solar online and now I'm always tier 1. Summer time I make kw!!

For a 12 month period my bill for electricity is ... $65.xx dollars last year.
65$ is all you paid for a year????

It doesn't. Over MH it does. Because you don't need a chiller. T5's are not bad on efficiency. The savings on going from t5 to full led is like 18-30$ and IME the color of any Sps won't be as nice. Pure Leds are for polyp growers, cheap skates and full softy tanks.

Yes it is fully transferable. The system is guaranteed to produce x amounts of power. Over the entire 20 years it will only lose about 5%. The system will produce more energy then I use. So over the 20 years, it doesn't matter if there is a better system, i'm already getting what I need. At the end of 7 years or 20 years, they have a 3rd party estimate what the value is in that particular market. At the end of 7 years its figured to be about a 3rd of what it was when new. Thats why I will probably buy it. At that time I wouldn't care if there is something better, ( probably will be ) I will still have everything I need.

The system will never be out dated, cause it will be producing all the enery I will need. And say I do sell, it will get appraised at that time, Aand be priced at that market value... Hope this makes sense.
